I've been trying to identify a song that I vaguely remember from pop radio of the 1970s. It was a Bob-Seger-like ditty about sex in the back of a pick-up, when the guy knew he was leaving town the next day.

I don't remember much of the lyrics, but it went something like this:

The swamp gas flares
And the [night birds?] they cry out in flight
It feels right
Lying with my back to the [moonlit?] night.

You can hear me sing a probably off-key version of it by clicking "Hear My Voice" on my Yahoo profile:

If anyone can identify the song, I'd be thrilled. It's been running around my head for a quarter of a century now.

Cheers, Hester

Sorry, I should have made that link a "blue clicky":

Jeez, that's complicated. I hope it works.

Cheers, Hester

Well, drat, Yahoo deleted that sound file.

However, you can hear me croaking the as-yet-unidentified "swamp gas" song here:

It's late and I'm getting techo-clumsy. None of those links work, but I'll attempt to upload that "swamp gas" sound file somehow tomorrow.

G'night!

Okay, this time I think my sound file should be accessible. Follow this link and click on "Swamp Gas" to hear me sing (sort of) the song I'm trying to identify:

Oh, crap. I forgot to do the blue clicky thing:

http://hesternic.tripod.com/swampgas.htm

Okay, so if you go to the above page and click "Swamp Gas", I think you'll actually get to hear me sing this mystery tune.

Cheers, Hester
