Subject: Lyr Add: THE LOVER'S FAREWELL (Carter Family) From: Jim Dixon Date: 11 Oct 19 - 02:10 PM THE LOVER’S FAREWELL As recorded by the Carter Family, 1930. (Bluebird 6036, Montgomery Ward 5012) We have met and we have parted. We have spoke our last goodbye. You have proved to me false-hearted. You may now forever go. You have wrecked the heart I've cherished. You have doomed me day by day. You are false, but I forgive you. To forget you, I cannot say. For I love you, dear, I love you More than all this world I know. You have proved to me false-hearted. You may now forever go. On the river bank I'll loiter Till I'll see your face once more, Then I'll plunge beneath the water And I'll land on some far shore. Among the trees and bushes Where the dark green willow waves, In the cold and silent rushes, There you'll find my lonely grave. For I love you, dear, I love you More than all this world I know. You have proved to me false-hearted. You may now forever go. Oh, I wish I was white marble. Cold and white on some far shore. This poor heart would cease from troubling And I'd feel the pain no more. For I love you, dear, I love you More than all this world I know. You have proved to me false-hearted. You may now forever go. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: songs by the Carter Family From: Jim Dixon Date: 25 Oct 11 - 08:03 AM There are actually several threads about the song LITTLE DARLING PAL OF MINE, plus a version in the DT. To see them, I suggest you start here and then follow the links at the top of the page to find the others. But I'm puzzled by this request. LITTLE DARLING PAL OF MINE doesn't even contain the phrase "my little girl." By "Carter and Carter" I assume our guest means Sara & Maybelle Carter. A couple of albums exist of them alone; however, I don't see any title that resembles "my little girl." There are lots of songs called MY LITTLE GIRL but I'm not finding any that were written or recorded by anyone named Carter. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: songs by the Carter Family From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 17 Oct 11 - 12:47 PM Hi, Guest. Some people say that 'My little girl' is also "Little Darling Pal of Mine." You can hear that on YouTube. Copy and paste this URL to hear it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1qz3CW5GE4 If that's it, searcn on google for Little Darling Pal of Mine lyrics. It may be here on the Mudcat. Look for the box in the upper right of this page. For future reference, it is better to start a new thread for a new song. And please don't use block capital letters. They are hard to read. |

Subject: RE: Carter Family Lyrics From: Barbara Shaw Date: 05 Aug 98 - 08:43 AM Joe, interesting. It turns out that the song "Am I a Soldier of the Cross" is in several of my songbooks. However, it's a completely different melody from what the Carters do on that album "Gospel Songs by The Carter Family in Texas, Volume 3" and the refrain about "on the sea of Galilee" is completely absent on your song. Maybe AP used some of the lyrics and made it his own song? |
Subject: RE: Carter Family Lyrics From: CarterNut Date: 05 Aug 98 - 12:26 AM Thanks guys! Please keep postin' em. |
Subject: RE: Carter Family Lyrics From: Joe Offer Date: 04 Aug 98 - 09:56 PM Hi, Barbara - I think that song is usually known as "Am I a Soldier of the Cross." Click here for the tune and more verses. -Joe Offer- |

ON THE SEA OF GALILEE E AShould I declare it to the skies On flowery bits of ease While others fawn to win the prize And sail to bloody seas. |

Subject: RE: Carter Family Lyrics From: Ralph Butts Date: 15 Jun 98 - 05:00 PM John......] Here's a list of the Carter lyrics I have in my computer. I'm working on transcribing others but there's so little time. If you're looking for something slightly off the beaten track (and there aren't many), you might try Stern Old Bachelor. Three others I like a lot, just a little different, are Cowboy Jack, Jealous Hearted Me and Sweet Fern. Let me know if you'd like any of these (it'll be a long time before I can send them in for the database. You can b/c me at: rsbassoc@neca.com ......Tiger

Just enter [Carter Family} in the search box in the upper-right corner of this page, and they'll appear. Actually, we probably have more, but the 18 are the ones marked as Carter Family songs. Subject: Carter Family Lyrics From: John Date: 13 Jun 98 - 12:03 AM If anyone has any lyrics to any songs by the Carter Family that are out of the usual popular variety please send them my way. I absolutely olve the Carter Family, and I perform their music on stage. Matter of fact, I pick the guitar in the "Carter Scratch" fashion. Help me keep the music alive in my area. I am the only person that does their music here. Thanks. |
