Subject: Lyr Add: See There, High in the Sky
From: Haruo
Date: 11 Nov 02 - 08:29 PM

Some weeks ago I noticed that in the Esperanto hymnal Adoru there was a song set to the tune "Over the Rainbow" from The Wizard of Oz. Last night I got around to paraphrasing it into singable English. (In my online hymnal: Esperanto original and English version.)

See There, High in the Sky

  1. See there, high in the sky, the bow of God;
see the sign of his blessing after the deadly flood.
  2. Rain and sun in the world, despair, delight:
Sin, repentance, salvation — grace in our darkest night.
  3. Thank you, God, for the rain and for the sun.
Thanks for pain, as for pleasure, through Jesus Christ, your Son.

Original text by Fr. Albrecht Kronenberger
English paraphrase by Ros' Haruo
Tune by Harold Arlen

There is supposed to be a MIDI of this tune in the Digitrad, but I can't get it to open; don't find it in Mudcat MIDIs. The MIDI I've got in my hymnal may be just a smidgen slower than one might wish.

Haruo, does this version have a bridge (the part that, in the original, goes "Someday I'll wish upon a star..." or tag (the "If happy little bluebirds fly..." part)?

Well done.

However, I am lost. (this will not be the first time)

What is this about???? I know it is music, and the OZ movie, is it supposed to connect to another thread...or perhaps - PM Personal Mail you sent to another?

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

Gargoyle,
This thread was created by Haruo to give us the text to a hymn which is sung to the same tune as the song Over the Rainbow from the Movie Wizard of Oz.

Hope that clarifies things for you.

Thanks, George, for clarifying that for Gargoyle.

And no, Genie, as far as I can tell it's just three straight stanzas to the initial part of the tune, the part whose text was

     Somewhere, over the rainbow,
          Way up high,
     There's a land that I heard of
          Once in a lullabye.

in the musical (at least according to the DigiTrad). The MIDI in my online hymnal (links in first post) will illustrate what I mean if my words are unclear.

Another dreary, banal, and offensive Cristian theft of a good tune.
