I see from the UK papers that a swathe of US from Great Lakes to the Gulf were hit by a twister. Ohio was mentioned. I hope the Mudcat family Patterson and kin were unaffected and all other 'Catters down in Tennessee etc were unaffected. Makes my poor flattened greenhouse seem a mere inconvenience.

There was a "probable" cyclone in western Pennsylvania, less than twenty miles from my place, but we just got a light rain and a light show. 'Spaw et al live spang in the middle of Ohio, so I'm taking it on faith that they're all right. The worst of it for Ohio was in the northwest corner, I believe, although there was some pretty good damage in the Cleveland area (middle of the northern border of the state; that's the southern coast of the southernmost of the Great Lakes for those of you on the east bank of the Pond.)

The tornado hit Van Wert ohio the hardest. It is about 22 miles east of me.In Indiana it it took out several amish barns and buildings but thankfully no houses. Van Wert had 2 deaths and not sure how many injuries, could have been much worse.
I was out Christmas looking with my 2 oldest grandchildren and my youngest daughter, never heard the sirens go off or heard any announcements in the stores. When I got home I found out that the sirens had indeed gone off and everyone was worried about us. We were having fun looking and playing with all the toys.Had I known I definately would have made a beeline for the grandkids house.Their mom and dad were pretty worried but knew they would be safe with me.
Hope all the other mudcatters are all ok

*Refreshing this thread before it falls off the daily list*

Only one death reported in western Pennsylvania (Mercer County, north of Pittsburgh).

I understand that in Van Wert, Ohio, many people in a movie theater were saved because the manager had the presence of mind to evacuate people from the theater rooms themselves and herd them into hallways. Video of the aftermath showed the theater seats open to the air, the walls and ceilings gone, but the inner walls (where the hallways – and people – were located) held through the storm.
