Subject: BS: Anybody remember 'Spider's Web' ?
From: mousethief

There used to be a show on the local NPR radio station called "Spider's Web" which read children's books. I remember listening to it on rainy afternoons during my work-study job in college.

Anyway it had a theme song which sounded for all the world like it was sung by Tom Chapin. It went something like this (through 20 years of faltering memory):

It's a web like a spider's web
Made of [?] and knotted shadows
Spun by the moon in my room each night
It's a web made to catch a dream
Hold it tight till I awaken
As if to tell me dreaming's all right.

Anybody else remember? Was that really Tom Chapin? Or just somebody who sounds like Tom Chapin?

Alex

Don't know who sang it that time (I remember it from summer camp), but try this thread for words and music.

Odetta did a great version of this song, which I first heard by Livingston Taylor, who may sound a bit like Tom Chapin. NPR might have had a few guest hosts record it.

About 20 years ago, a book by Sara Orn Jewett titled COUNTRY OF THE POINTED FIRS was dramatized on the SPIDER'S WEB.
Julie Harris played the part of the summer visitor, and I played both the Doctor and Elija Tilly.
It was definitly Odetta who sand the theme song.

Good thing you noticed that, Alex. I have a ZIP file of all the old Mudcat MIDIs - some of them got lost from their original location, so I uploaded a new copy to the new MudMIDI section.
