Subject: I'm looking for song chords for Gaberlun
From: boab d
Date: 13 Nov 02 - 04:44 PM

Hi all I'm looking for chords for songs either by or performed by Gaberlunzie the Scottish folk band.
Here's a wee list of some of them.
Black Jack Davie
The back O Beyond
Superstition
The Auld Folk
Sam The Skull
The Hedgehog Song
The Yellow on the Broom

the reason i ask is that i can't find these anywhere and I've tried the Gaberlunzie site and still got nothing. Your help will be put too great use well on drunken nights with the lads
Cheers all

Kendall: will they know your "handle"? I'll definitely be there and should be able to have a word - the Queen's Hall here is a very open little venue. Love "Sam the Skull"! And what was that other similar one? Something about finding what they thought was a pup outside Calderpark Zoo, grew up to be a lion or something and created havoc. Hilarious!

Hi all it's just me again well unfortunatly I'm off to poland from the 18th Nov to the 30th Dec to do some work as you do so I wont be able to make the gig. Ive seen the guys thrice and the bast one was at the Star in Strathaven last year. If any of you wee people are going to the gig could you do me a favour and ask Gordon about the chord books that he was talking about when i last spoke to him. He was on about releasing a book of all his own stuff, now that would be a fantastic thing to have.
Once again cheers
Dylan

ever since the day ma dug ate aunty belle
a've been wunderin what kinda dug a've got
for it grew up awfy big and tawny yellow
with a great big hairy collar round its throat

it was just a little pup on the nicht a picked it up
it was wanderin in the dark near a place called Calderpark
and when people see me comin they shout LION
but a've never telt a lie in aw ma life

ever since ma dug hud aunty fur his dinner
ave been takin money aff ae racin mugs
doon at shawfield track ma fidos i the winner
but the trouble is there runnin short o dugs

so when the butcher for a bet
gave a sheeps heid tae ma pet
he gave a strangled YELL
when it chowed his heid aswell
and when people see me comin they shout LION
but ave never telt a lie in aw ma life

now ave been to France and Spain and Portobello
a've been moved on by the polis many times
and when it rains i carry my umbarello
and i only mention that because it rhymes

and when i m signin doon the broo
theres never any queue
the man says dinnae come doon
we'll just send your money roon
and when people see me comin they shout lion
but a've never telt a lie in aw ma life

and if you think i m tellin lies
your in for a surprise
if you hear a helluva roar theres nae use boltin for the door
or climbin on a chair just get doon and ay your prayers
fur a've never telt a lie in aw ma life

there yae go and i think its in the right order
thats what comes from listening to the gabs for the past 30 years you get to know it off the tap ae yur heid

The lads were excellent here last Saturday: St Andrew's Day. I managed a quick word with Gordon during the interval when he, The Gaberlunzie Marketing and Merchandizing Division, was selling CDs from his briefcase. I requested "Auntie Bella" and he obliged. (I had no time for any more requests as people were milling around more tham somewhat).

Hi there, I got a Gaberlunzie cd some years ago from a guy I knew in a Glasgow pub, no titles on it, but I managed to get few lyrics. I'm still looking for some though, one of which is about
"Callum, Joe, myself and Donald John had come to town",
basically is a song about a trip they took to Glasgow from Skye.
Another one has a line that goes
"for the waters of Loch Leven (...) where the lights of home are dancing on the shores"
Anyone has a clue about the songs' titles and the lyrics? Thanks in advance,
Mauro
