Subject: RE: New Music Club, 20/11, Rickmansworth, UK From: Piersy Date: 19 Nov 02 - 01:01 PM Friendly Earth Acoustic Music Club FAQ So when is it on? Wednesday, 20/11 or 11/12, 8.30pm So where is this place? The Shed at the Sportsman Scots Hill Croxley Green Nr. Rickmansworth Hertfordshire And how can I get there? Walk or cycle, or if it is too far from where you live you can use private or public motorised transport. Croxley has a tube station (Hammersmith and City/Metropolitan), Croxley Green has a bus link from Watford. Bus services 830, 6 and W14 serve Croxley Green. Point me in the right direction You want the A412, which will take you from Rickmansworth to Watford, The Sportsman is in Croxley Green between the two. Junction 18 on the M25 will get you to Rickmansworth where you can join the A412 or you can get on it in Watford. Is entrance to the club discriminated on grounds of class, race, sex, sexuality or political persuasion? No, there is no discrimination, we aim to make music lovers from anywhere or of anykind very welcome. What kind of music am I going to hear? Acoustic, hard to narrow it down any further, but singer-songwriters, traditional (from all over the world), contemporary song, thrash folk, Edith Piaf covers etc.etc. I am a big fan of Alpine Flugelhorn Music, will I be able to hear some at the Friendly Earth Acoustic Club? It is quite likely. I do Edith Piaf covers can I come and do a floorspot? We have a lot of people doing Edith Piaf, please get there early if you want to do a spot. What's the beer like? Pretty good, 3 or 4 real ales, and a good range of everything else. I am young, well dressed and have several attractive features would the Friendly Earth Acoustic Music Club be a good place to meet similar people? Oh, yes! |

Subject: RE: New Music Club, 20/11, Rickmansworth, UK From: Piersy Date: 20 Nov 02 - 04:52 AM Off the top of my head I think The Sportsman is at 506750E 195250N (N51:38:45 W0:27:31) OS ref, X 506750 OS Y 195250 Nearest Post Code WD3 3FE Latitude (WGS84) N51:38:45 (51.645925) Longitude (WGS84) W0:27:31 (-0.458566) Landranger ref. TQ067952 Hope that helps Though MGAS I have experienced your unnatural ability to find a folk club in a strange town without a map, so I don't think you need such detail. |

Subject: RE: New Music Club, 20/11, Rickmansworth, UK From: Piersy Date: 20 Nov 02 - 11:49 AM You will all be pleased to know that my good friend Marlon is coming along tonight. Yes, Breezy I agree entirely. Warm socks may be advisable, but it weren't too bad last time, and it is fairly mild outside tonight. As for those grid references, may be my memory is playing tricks on me, at my age, all that beer, all that music... Yes, there is a geocache in the Shed, we only had about 20 geocachers coming and looking at it throughout the performance last time, very nice people though, some of them stayed at listened. |
Subject: RE: New Music Club, 20/11, Rickmansworth, UK From: breezy Date: 20 Nov 02 - 12:22 PM 3 Pairs should do it, it'll be colder later cos the sun'll have gone down by 10.00 to-night over Croxley Green. Clems coming to Jeremy Taylor, remember that line he wrote that goes 'the beers expensive but the f-offs free' about the Tracey ,the Essex barmaid song, what a creaser. |
Subject: RE: New Music Club, 20/11, Rickmansworth, UK From: Piersy Date: 21 Nov 02 - 05:00 AM Another excellent night at the Friendly Earth Acoustic Club. Many thanks to all those who turned up. Special thanks to our main guests: Hamish Currie and Lorna, who delighted us with their wonderful modern renditions of mostly traditional songs and got everyone in the mood for singing; the thoroughly excellent Martin Banks (we wished there was time for more) with his intelligent songwriting, brilliantly performed on guitar and bouzouki. Thanks also to the floor singers - excellent stuff. If anyone wants more excellent music this week, get your butts along to the Windward St. Albans Folk Song Club at the Comfort Hotel, Holywell Hill, St. Albans, where George Papavgeris will entertain us with his super songs with support from the melodious voice of Hilary Ward and the traditional and self penned styley of Clive Rothwell from Redbourn. Next meeting of the Cold Enough to Freeze the Nuts Off a Brass Monkey Acoustic Club, sorry Friendly Earth Acoustic Club (bring hot water bottle), will take place on Wednesday December 11th, when Newport West (Country and Western Milton Keynes Music), Piers Hobson and Rob Harrington will be the main guests. |

Traction Engine called 'Little Billy' (AD9069) was chuffing away in Harpenden, Lower High Street. Just thought I'd mention it because My Guru Always Said is a Traction Engine Spotter and she singing in St Albans tomorrow. Yes, pictures of Breezy and Hamish Currie in the scuddy will appear on the www soon. Cool it ladies - I'll tell you where to log on. |
Subject: RE: New Music Club, 20/11, Rickmansworth, UK From: My guru always said Date: 21 Nov 02 - 05:21 PM Piersybaby: I think you'll find that Traction Engines spot me - usually when I've got a nice white T Shirt on - unbelievably difficult to shift, especially the smuts from Polish coke which burns a yellow smoke. Yes, 'Little Billy', a Garrett I believe, engine no. 33566... I've a good slide of it somewhere, now where did I file that????? Am certainly hoping to sing tomorrow at the Comfort Hotel in support of George Papavgeris (wonderful songwriter & all-round good guy). It's just that I broke a tooth earlier & hope it doesn't give me gip while I'm warbling away at the front. Sitting or standing? Eyes open or closed? Hmmm... Excellent news about getting the old PC going.... did you get all the bugs out? |
Subject: RE: New Music Club, 20/11, Rickmansworth, UK From: Piers Date: 21 Nov 02 - 05:32 PM Yes, Garret that's right you really are a Traction Engine spotter. Sorry to hear about the tooth, hope we don't get too much unwanted whistling. Actually it turned out me ferrets living in the box, not bugs at all. Seeya |
