Subject: BS: Anyway, the good news is From: Nemesis Date: 19 Nov 02 - 07:29 PM Dear all, despite all the crap happening on the "BS: Sob! 2003 it's started already" thread .. our first ever festival (or two days in a beer tent with 63 musicians and a 9 gallon firkin of Harveys's Best Bitter) in July was so great that I've 10 bands this week book up to play for beer and glory next year! I suppose it's not very nice to sound so shrill and punchy .. but it is unashamedly cheering me up that for a club that can't afford to book guests, has survived on floor spots for 18 months, I have had final confirmation today that we now have a veritable constellation of stars coming to do "floor spots" next month. ... one in between touring with Robert Plant & BBCR3 due to Edinburgh Festival critical acclaim .. another headling at Quebec Festival next year .. another doing a 5 hour round trip to play 3 numbers .. an aclaimed classical Spanish guitarist .. plus actually a great duo guesting for a trifling amount of money .. plus a bluegrass band and a zydeco band - all in 3 and half hours... so, the little bastard that is trying desperately to obliviate all our efforts and bury us can just go s***w himself - cos surely nobody else would want to. |

Subject: RE: BS: Anyway, the good news is From: Leadfingers Date: 19 Nov 02 - 07:51 PM It sounds like a good session.Where is it? but dont knock people who are trying to run something and being sniped at by those who should be helping out.I have more than one of the T shirts. |

Subject: RE: BS: Anyway, the good news is From: Dead Horse Date: 19 Nov 02 - 11:32 PM So how long did the ale last among 36 musos, not long, I bet? That would be 2 pints each, or 1 per day, perhaps. For those not used to the old beer measures:- 8 pints = 1 gallon 4.5 gallons = 1 pin 2 pins = 1 firkin 2 firkins = 1 kilderkin 2 kilderkins = 1 barrel 2 barrels = 1 puncheon 3 puncheons = 1 tun 6 firkins = 1 hogshead 2 hogsheads = 1 butt 2 butts = 1 ton 2 tons = 1 damn good piss up. |

Subject: RE: BS: Anyway, the good news is From: Nemesis Date: 20 Nov 02 - 03:57 AM Firkinly, with a few being on orange juice and gin and both, the beer ran out at the end - actually, it was so hot everyone drank lager... unfortunately, somebody got wise to the fact that we had a collecting tin out for drinks for the performers, and blagged drinks off the pub staff, running up such a big bar tab, which wasn't endorsed much less known about, that the Landlord knocked it off the gerneous amount he was planning to give us as a gesture of thanks for making £3,000 profit for him... which means he very generously gave us nothing with which to buy extra drinks for performers. I personally ended up paying out GBP120 in phonecalls alone to organise the festival , which meant I paid for who ever the bastard was's drinks. HI Leadfingers, this is in Worthing Sussex, Uk and ! don't quite get the reference to not knocking people? The little bastard I mentioned and go into nauseating and tedious detail about on the other thread is undermining and sabotaging other people's efforts, pissing off the press and stopping other people getting editorial in about genuine events, is excluding everybody from the democratic process and appearing to be declaring themselves in charge of all the voluntary groups in the town; is fudging the lines between his "voluntary" activities and his money-making enterprise, in order I believe, to cream off funding for community events by his money-making enterprise. Which wouldn't be so bad (like well done, you ruthless entrepeneur for cleaning up where voluntary groups fear to tread, if he was being democratic instead of despotic, Machiavellian, untruthful, misleading, down right lying ,, to the detriment of the entire community. |

Subject: RE: BS: Anyway, the good news is From: Nemesis Date: 20 Nov 02 - 01:52 PM Oh, yes I think there were lots of hurting heads - even better the Fire-eater sat out in the sunshine, got sun-burnt and had to home before performing :) |

Subject: RE: BS: Anyway, the good news is From: Nemesis Date: 20 Nov 02 - 03:43 PM Oh, and further to the little bastard issue .. today we had a letter saying that if we want to exhibit pictures during the FRINGE (like the homegrown "grass roots" community festival) and we want to display the local old folks homes one-off therapy paintings (for example) each of those old people has to pay five pounds to them -- the same price as a professional artist with dozens of pictures that they will be selling.. and TLB believes that is "fair".. but then again .. see the point re fudging lines between voluntary and commercial sector and creaming off funding .. |
