That reminds me!

Last night I listened to both Fred Astaire's early version of Let's Call The Whole Thing Off, and Ella Fitzgerald's from the Songbooks recordings.

Fred's is fairly restrained, though you say "oyster" and I say "erster" was pushing it a bit - I suspect it's a close as he could get to a kind of Jimmy Cagney pronunciation. But Ella got very suspect with some of her contrasts.

My favourite version was one which went

You lettuce and I say lettoochay
You say cabbage and I say cabadgeay
Lettuce, lettoochay
Cabbage, cabadgeay
etc

Anyway, time for tea.
