Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'Eileen' From: GUEST,Barney McCool Date: 22 Nov 02 - 05:42 AM oh no never more was her heart light and warm, Her lover he died, yes he died in a storm, And down by the shore you could hear it again, His ghost in the wind singing, fill `em again. |
Subject: Lyr Add: EILEEN (Sylvia Fine/Max Liebman) From: Brakn Date: 22 Nov 02 - 08:01 AM EILEEN (Sylvia Fine/Max Liebman) In a town on the sea by the Castle Dooneen The fairest of all was the maiden Eileen The bloom on her cheek was as fresh as the dew And her heart to a young fisher laddie was true At morn he would sail with the sun and the tide At eve he'd return to his promised young bride There on the shore she could hear it so plain His voice in the wind singing soft this refrain Eileen, my Eileen, wait for me, wait Eileen They were to be wed on a Sunday in May And faith 'twas a joy to see Eileen so gay The morning before he set sail with the tide But he never returned to his promised young bride No, never more was her heart light and warm Her lover he died, yes he died in a storm But down on the shore she could still hear so plain His voice in the wind sing soft this refrain Eileen, my Eileen, wait for me, wait Eileen They say that her heart, it was broken in two The lovely Eileen, so young and so true And down by the shore, they who loved her the best By the rock where she waited, they laid her to rest Oh many's the year that have passed since that day And maidens who wait for their lovers there say That still on the shore they can hear it so plain His ghost in the wind, sing soft this refrain Eileen, my Eileen, wait for me, wait Eileen |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'Eileen' From: MartinRyan Date: 31 Jul 08 - 03:55 PM The tune for the verse part, as given above, is that of "The mountains of mourne", available as a midi HERE My recollection is that there is usually a short chorus, also? Regards |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'Eileen' From: Joe Offer Date: 31 Jul 08 - 04:07 PM Yeah, so all we need is for somebody to transcribe the chorus for me, and I'll add it to the MIDI for "Mourne." I think I'll add this one to my repertoire. The Harry Fox Agency Songfile Website says the songwriters are SYLVIA FINE, MAX LIEBMAN - good Irishmen, both. -Joe- |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req/Add: Eileen (Sylvia Fine/Max Liebman) From: GUEST Date: 01 Nov 22 - 06:37 AM Just stumbled on this - a bit late in the day! The song was also recorded (twice) by country singer Slim Whitman and again by the Icelandic folksinger Omar Blondahl who picked it up while living in Newfoundland. It is credited to Max Liebman and Sylvia Fine, but whether they adapted it from an earlier folksong I don't know |
