I'm hoping somebody can help me find the lyrics to this one
....Thanks...Nita
......................................
Goodbye darling may God be with you
while crossing over the Spanish Maine........
.......................................
.....................
A short time later there came a letter
It would grieve your heart just to read it o'er
Wet with tears and marked with kisses
Good bye darling for ever more.............

Should be "Spanish Main."
Recently there was a discussion about an old broadside song where the sailor boy was lost, but can't bring it to mind. Someone with a better memory? I believe it was a variant of "The Sailor's Farewell."

Also try "The Sailor Boy." Several discussions of this and "The Sailor's Farewell in the Forum, and words are in the DT. Offhand I don't recall one mentioning the Spanish main, but one or two did have reference to that area.

There's a song called "Spanish Main" performed by Fairport Convention on 3 of their albums: "Who Knows Where the Time Goes?" (1997), "Cropredy 98" (1998), and "Wishfulness Waltz" (2000). It was written by Martin Allcock and Chris Leslie.

But I doubt it's the one you want.

Fairport Convention: Wishfulness Waltz [with sound clips]. Probably not the one.

Did the song have anything to do with piracy? See Saladin Mutuny in the DT.
