DADDY, DEAR OLD DADDY is one of the songs included in the book "Mark Hamilton: Songs & Tunes from Wolf Run." You can order a companion tape or CD with the book.

I can't find any other information about that song. However, I wonder if the song you want might actually be DADDY AND HOME, which was written by Jimmie Rodgers and Elsie McWilliams, and recorded by Jimmie Rodgers, and later by Tanya Tucker. That song contains the phrase "Daddy, dear old Daddy."

I should point out that there is one heck of a lyric resource and well worth making a note of.

Dear Old Daddy Of Mine
By Wilf Carter

Shadows slowly falling
Among the whispering pines,
But a light is burning
In that cozy shack of mine.
I hasten down the pathway
To see a face divine,
for waiting there to greet me
Is that dear old Daddy of mine.

(Chorus)

Oh' Daddy, dear old Daddy!
You've been a real pal to me,
Guiding my falt'ring footsteps
Where ever I may be.
When the roll is called up yonder,
Though we've been parted for a time,
I know we'll meet in Heaven
Oh, dear old daddy of mine.

Seated by the fire side
The hours swiftly fly,
Watching glowing embers
As they slowly fade and die.
But life seems like a vision
That blooms then fades away,
Like rose buds in the morning
When they fade at close of day.

Grey dawn breaks before me,
The sun begins to shine,
There to bid me welcome
Is that dear old Daddy of mine.
His hair has turned to silver,
his soul is still divine,
He guides me from temptation,
Does that dear old Daddy of mine.

I'm dreaming tonight of an old southern town,
And the best friend that I ever had,
I've grown so weary of roaming around,
I'm going back home to my Dad,
Your hair has turned to silver, I know you're fading too,
Daddy dear old Daddy, I'm coming home to you,
You made my boyhood happy, still, I longed to roam,
I've had my way and now I'll say, I long for you and for home.

Dear old Daddy, you shared my sorrows and joys,
you tried to bring me up right,
I know I'll still be just one of the boys,
so I'm starting back home tonight,

[DADDY AND HOME] Jimmie Rodgers

Damn, I'm losing it...

DADDY AND HOME
Songwriters: Jimmie Rodgers / Elsie McWilliams
As recorded by Jimmie Rodgers, 1928.

I am dreaming tonight of an old Southern town
And the best friend that I ever had,
For I've grown so weary of roaming around.
I'm going back home to my dad.

CHORUS: Your hair has turned to silver; I know you're fading too.
Daddy, dear ol' Daddy, I'm coming back to you.
You made my boyhood happy, but still, I longed to roam.
I've had my way, but now I'll say: "I long for you and for home." [YODEL]

Dear ol' Daddy, you shared my sorrows and joys.
You tried to bring me up right.
I know you'll still be just one of the boys,
So I'm starting back home tonight.

REPEAT CHORUS AND YODEL
