Subject: RE: BS: Admit to being a Secret Santa !!! From: GUEST,Bat Goddess' Secret Santa Date: 14 Dec 02 - 02:56 PM Okay, so maybe you DO know who I am, but I'll keep it secret and just let you guess. You have a package on the way on Monday and it comes from very close by so I expect it will arrive before Christmas. It is not what I intended but I think you'll be happy. When the spring comes, actually late spring, I will send you what I think you will enjoy even more. I cannot say why I have to wait this long, but you will also get a Christmas present in May or June as well. Merry Christmas and enjoy the first package!!!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Admit to being a Secret Santa !!! From: Genie Date: 13 Dec 02 - 10:43 PM Santa, my not having identified you yet has more to do with my not having had time to search thru the thread you've alluded to than with anything else. I've been trying to connect your clues with Mudcatters that I already 'know,' and so far, I've been able to eliminate all the ones I can think of. Since it's pretty clear you and I had not communicated much (if at all) before our SS assignments, I've just gotta go through those threads. I probably won't be able to do it until the week of Christmas, but rest assured, I will. Meanwhile, don't make it too easy for me. (I was trying to make that "double" thing harder, since I don't know of any Mudcats who are twins. But you just wait. I will.) Genie PS, Gotta go buy someone an Eddie Rabbit CD and a recording of the Chicken Dance for Christmas. |
Subject: RE: BS: Admit to being a Secret Santa !!! From: GUEST,Bardford's Celestial Santa Date: 13 Dec 02 - 01:29 PM Hey, Bardford! Look out your window tonight (or, better yet, go up on the roof and look up), and if it's not too cloudy or the moon's not too bright, you'll see the first installment of my present for you. Nobody else can see this present, of course. ;-) It's just for you! Here's a 'preview' (from another show in November): Ho Ho Ho |
Subject: RE: BS: Admit to being a Secret Santa !!! From: GUEST,Genie's Secret Santa. Date: 13 Dec 02 - 12:49 PM Hi Genie: Well your presents are on the way from the east. Nothing major, but at least I spent a lot of time thinking about them. All will be revealed when they arrive. Here's some help deciphering my clues: I'm a twin I had a broken foot about 2 years ago I've changed my Mudcat name I love 20's and 30's music and have contributed a lot to threads of a certain "roots" genre We have a dog, cat, and a rabbit as pets (If you look hard enough you might find a picture of our rabbit) I play instruments that some think are strange A mudcatter lives behind me and can see into our bathroom window from their porch There are A LOT of mudcatters and folkies where I live I've sung a shanty or two too. My first registered post in Mudcat was in early 1999 (though I participated as a guest in 1998) Let me know when the package arrives, and what you think about it. Your S.S. |
Subject: RE: BS: Admit to being a Secret Santa !!! From: Pushkin Date: 13 Dec 02 - 07:02 AM Yep, I'm a Secret Santa. My present to my SS has been sent, received and opened. But she still doesn't know it's me. Pushkin |
Subject: RE: BS: Admit to being a Secret Santa !!! From: Genie Date: 12 Dec 02 - 05:23 AM Well, Santa, Kendall says he ain't you but he knows who you are. I'm trying to remember who it was who hurt his foot a while back. I remember it coming up in the forum (the injury, not the foot itself), but, dang it, I can't remember who (although I have a couple of suspects). Still sniffing. Genie (Penny Blue?) |
Subject: RE: BS: Admit to being a Secret Santa !!! From: GUEST,Itinerant Santa Date: 11 Dec 02 - 10:59 PM Actually, I did format both those "drawings" properly when I posted them, and they showed up fine both in the preview and right afterwards when I checked the thread. The next day, on a different computer (same format) the first post appeared out of alignment, so I configured and posted the second one. That night, the first post continued to appear screwed up but the second one looked fine (in preview and in the forum). The next day the FIRST one looked fine again, but the SECOND one was out of alignment! Gotta be those *%!*@! elves! |
Subject: RE: BS: Admit to being a Secret Santa !!! From: GUEST,Genie's Secret Santa Date: 10 Dec 02 - 11:18 PM Genie! Whew! I was beginning to give up on your prognastic prowess. You are on the right coast, but alas I've never been a Sea Captain, nor had a one legged man chase me across the country (but look out for my Evil Twin. He appears in the middle of the night in the strangest places by following the sound of caterwalling 'catters). I have sung a shanty or two, and wondered about a Minch. I've cried for help as I searched for what I lost but no one could hear me. Where I live folkies are everywhere. Call it luck or fortune, but we even have to shut the bathroom shades to avoid 'catters stares.
My own secret santa still hasn't left a clue, but my identity will become apparent when you get your last gift. It's in the mail tomorrow if we don't get caught be freezing rain.
O (Amos Knows) |
Subject: RE: BS: Admit to being a Secret Santa !!! From: Genie Date: 10 Dec 02 - 09:57 PM OK, Santa, I'm beginning to think one of my initial suspicions was right. Reminds me of that song- "Green Eyes Crying in The Reindeer". How'd you do that artwork- I'm almost afraid to ascii. I gotta tell you, Santa, even with the preponderance of clues you've peppered in my path, I'm no closer to ferreting out your true identity. Kudos to you! You are indeed the Supreme Santa of subterfuge, the sublimely nefarious Saint Nick of namelessness, the Pere Noel de perfectione, the Claus that refreshes. Looking forward to continued communication, Your humbled Santee, Bardford |

Subject: RE: BS: Admit to being a Secret Santa !!! From: Bat Goddess Date: 03 Dec 02 - 02:55 PM What I meant was, there are too many (not really; especially if you like celebrating them all!!!) mid-winter holidays. (And we NEED mid-winter celebrations -- gotta bring the sun back!) Pick your favorite (which all seem to fall between the first of December and the 6th of January, although I'm rather fond of Robert Burns' Birthday on Jan. 25th myself -- but I certainly won't wait til then to open MY present!!!) and open up your prezzie within the celebration and ritual of your choice. The ladies restrooms on the train were the only places that weren't crowded, and they had sofas too! So being enterprising young grad students we commandeered the facility. However, we had to keep moving because the conductor kept kicking us out (It was probably M.TED and we didn't even know it!). And oh, even though I'm Santa, you can see that I have help from the Easter Bunny (or at least a bunny) if you know where to look. Ho Ho Ho (or maybe heh heh heh). P.S. Here is another clude MY Secret Santa has been as quiet as a mouse, and I'm getting quite worried that I may need to wait 'till next year. :-) |

(Unless, of course, you're a guy who pays no mind when "The Restroom Door Says 'Ladies'"! Thanks for the CD. I'm only saving it for Christmas because I'll be at my sis's house in CA that day and 80% of the presents are for her kids. We grown-ups gotta have a FEW presents to open, so we don't feel left out! Subject: RE: BS: Admit to being a Secret Santa !!! From: GUEST,Genie's SS Date: 02 Dec 02 - 05:34 PM Genie: Nope, this is the first package I've sent you. In fact, being your SS has been fun, since I knew little about you or your music before I was picked. Now, I know a new carol, songs not to sing when I'm old, and something about what to do with servicemen when you are young. Though the last reminds me of a song about a student from Harvard, a train, and a tunnel. :-) G.S.S P.S. Look for some of my clues in the 10 obscure facts about you thread, which I just found out my dear brother in Kansas read to my mom, dad, little brother, nephews, sister in-laws and who knows who else at Thanksgiving dinner. My secret life has been revealed! It seems that you have a better time than I while traveling, though while traveling from Chicago to D.C. on AMTRAK in 79' we got caught in the snow storm that caused the Mayor to lose the next election (Bilandic ?). It was fine in the Club car listening to someone pound out on the piano "The AMTRAK BLues" composed on the spot. Then the booze ran out and we spent the rest of the time in a roving poker game that moved from ladies bathroom to ladies bathroom, and sleeping in the luggage racks. We were only 24 hours late into D.C. |

If it wasn't sent Priority, it would take 3-5 WEEKS! I'm identified not only on the mailing label, but inside the package as well. By the way, waiting until the specific midwinter holiday of December 25th to open everything is unnecessary . . . Oh, and I think I've twigged to who my SS is. Hmmm . . . ought to be interesting! Subject: RE: BS: Admit to being a Secret Santa !!! From: Genie Date: 02 Dec 02 - 03:25 PM Well, Santa, I gotta go count posts for a few suspects, to be sure. this may take a while, since my system's not THAT fast! One question, Santa: Did you also send me a different CD earlier this year? Genie |

Man my elves are fast in the Great North West. I hope you enjoy the CD. Its one of my favorites, and I figured that it has some songs that some of the folks that you sing to at retirement centers will probably remember fondly. Send me a PM if you think you have ferreted out my true identity. Your Santa P.S. Don't be surprised if something else arrives before my midnight flight around the world. |
Subject: RE: BS: Admit to being a Secret Santa !!! Subject: RE: BS: Admit to being a Secret Santa !!! From: Genie Date: 02 Dec 02 - 11:53 AM Hi, I'm Jeanene and I'm an SS member, too. In fact, some say my sanity has always been secret! *G* I have posted a message (anonymously, of course) to my Santee in the Hints" thread, and I've gotten a couple of hints there from my Santa (about whose identity I have a hunch). I have not mailed my Santee's present yet, but there's still just enough time to get it delivered before Christmas if I send it in the next 3 days or so. I think I already got and opened my Santa's present. (If not, maybe there's a real Santa!) Anyway there was a beautiful CD of old recordings, including "If I Can't Sell It, I'm Gonna Keep Sittin' On It," which was waiting for me when I got home the other day, and I didn't order it, so I wonder... If I'd thought it was a present, I'd have saved the surprise for Christmas, but I'm gonna wrap it and open it and play it on Christmas. Anyway, if it is from my SS, it corroborates my suspicions about his identity. |

Subject: RE: BS: Admit to being a Secret Santa !!! From: SINSULL Date: 01 Dec 02 - 07:11 PM I'm bad. I had to open at least one of the packages - a tiny tea set. I mean a teeny tiny tea set in blue with yellow sunflowers. I love it. Funny though - one of my movers had the task of packing my tiny treasures. When he came across a tiny pumpkin tea set, he sighed and said "You're going to lose parts of this." He double wrapped it, taped it, and labelled it. Now I have two. I love it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Admit to being a Secret Santa !!! From: Mark Cohen Date: 01 Dec 02 - 05:20 PM Well, 'Spaw, I hope it isn't too long in the back. Wouldn't want all that beautiful wool to catch fire when....oh, right, this is the holiday season, time for peace on earth and not that other stuff. Anyway, I admit I'm a Secret Santa, and I admit I haven't gotten around to mailing my present. But at least I have it--it's sitting right on the table, waiting patiently to be mailed. Oh, yeah, first I have to wrap it. And then find the address. And then find a time to get to the post office. Damn, this ain't easy, let me tell you! (Hint: it isn't plumeria massage oil...which will tell you that my santee is not CarolC.) |

Subject: Admit to being a Secret Santa !!! From: Tig Date: 28 Nov 02 - 12:56 PM I'm lucky, I know I have a Secret Santa because they have put me some (bad) verses on the threads, but some of my friends are getting VERY worried. Their Santa's don't seem to exist :-(((( If you ARE a Santa who hasn't admitted your existance PLEASE put them out of their misery. It's very easy. Log off, post to any of the Santa threads as Guest, ....... Secret Santa, submit the message and then log on again in your own name. It's half the fun of being a Santa and it really makes it all worthwhile - what would YOU feel like if you thought no-one cared? |
