Rich is right. The refrain I remembered goes to "Sabin the Woodfitter" not "Peter Kagan and the Wind". So you're off the hook, Joe.

I looked at the Bok lyric sheets for both the LP and the CD and I listened to the CD. I could not find any other singing parts than the ones that appeared with the link above. The differences between Bok's version and the link version are minimal as a couple examples will show.

Bok - Wind snatches off north-by-east; "I'll freeze you." Kagan says, "I'm not afraid of cold." But Kagan is afraid. He doesn't know what to do.

Link - The Wind snatched off North by East. "I'll freeze you." "I'm not afraid of cold." But Kagan was afraid. He didn't know what to do.

Bok - And there was a seal lying with him there, curled over him like a blanket - and the snow was upon the seal.

Link - And there was a seal, lying there with him, curled over him like a blanket, and the snow was upon the seal's back.

I confess - the link I posted is not the true and complete Gordon Bok version of the song, but I am away from my vast collection of CD's and am unable to provide the Bok version. Nonetheless, the link gives a pretty good rendition. If you follow the link back to its previous directory, you will find other interesting legends.

You know, Joe, I just read through that link for Peter Kagan that you posted above, and I think it's missing the "One bell, two bell, don't go sailin'" part of the singing. The song that goes with the gong bouy, I think it is. Though I haven't listened to the record recently. I seem to remember that was part of the telling, too. Am I right?

A fairly recent CD collection of Gordon Bok's material (North Winds Clearing) contains "Peter Kagan & the Wind" along with printed lyrics. It also has a bunch of other great songs. I think Folk Legacy has a web site where you can get further information.

The right spelling is Peter Kagan, and a lot of it is spoken. Basically a 15 minute story with a couple refrains, and the whole song is on a Folk Legacy record of the same name. Blessings, Barbara

Can any one help me with the lyrics to "Peter Cagon and the Wind"? I remember hearing it sung on Sing Along Jubilee. It is about a fisherman who saves a seal, he brings her home and she turns into a human. He goes back to sea, there is a storm, and the only way she can save his life is to turn back into a seal forever. I think the one that sang it was Jim Bennet. Thank you.
