Subject: 'Folk '66' LP From: JJ Date: 04 Dec 02 - 04:42 PM Picked up a copy of an LP called "Folk '66" (Design Records mono DLP-207) featuring the Limelighters, Barry McGuire (and featuring members of the New Christy Minstrels!), Judy Henske and Hoyt Axton. I think these are pirated live performances from the Troubadour in LA, because one of the Axton cuts and both Henske cuts can be found on the "Hootenanny at the Troubadour" LP. On "Folk '66," though, the applause is edited out. The Henske tracks even have their names changed ("House of the Rising Sun" becomes "House in New Orleans"). There are no liner notes. The weird thing is that when checking the Judy Henske website, I find that the stereo version of this LP has different cuts. Barry McGuire and whoever he has with him add "Greenback Dollar." Henske loses "House in New Orleans." Axton loses "Blues For a Hoot," but adds "Shepherd." Is there a Mudcatter knowledgeable in the LA folk scene c. 1966 who could explicate some of this for me? |

Subject: RE: 'Folk '66' LP From: Hrothgar Date: 05 Dec 02 - 03:15 AM The LP I have called "Folk 66" is by Colin Wilkie and Shirley Hart. Did somebody pinch the name as well as the performances? |
