If ya have probelms finding either tweeds or the song, PM me and I'll try to assist. Bobert |

Subject: RE: Songs That Make You Laugh From: Merritt Date: 07 Dec 02 - 11:02 AM Songs that get laughs for me at pubs & clubs: ~ The Eggplant That Ate Chicago - orig. by Dr West's Medicine Band & Junk Band; reworked lyrics slightly so that each mention of Chicago is replaced with a city progressively closer to burg where I'm playing ~ Lookin' For Trouble - orig by Steve Goodman; how funny tiz depends somewhat on audience; dark lyrics seem to encourage some folks to order another drink; played it for a community theater group recently tho' & they found it to be a real howler ~ Man Smart(Woman Smarter) - orig calypso tune by King Radio (1952); "Let us look at woman and man, and see which one is smarter, some say man, but I say no!; the woman got the man like a puppet show, etc..." ~ You Can't Help It If You're Still In Love With Me (C-2) – by Will Hankums the western-country artist ~ You Rascal You – orig by Sam Theard (1931); a hit for Louis Armstrong; there are R & X rated versions; "I'll be glad when you're gone, you rascal, you, I'll be glad when you're dead, you Dirty Dog, etc.." - Merritt |

Subject: RE: Songs That Make You Laugh From: Bat Goddess Date: 07 Dec 02 - 12:06 PM "Down Below" which works into one of the worst puns in English -- At our local sewer farm, there was cause for alarm When a man fell down a pit a year ago. Since the accident occurred he's been lying there, in-turd I'm glad I'm working down below! "Living in Braintree with You In Methuen (Is Almost Like Living In Lowell)" which works up to an almost as bad pun -- "When you left you took my balls, dear, so without you I can't even bowl." Lots of English music hall songs, too. Linn |

Subject: RE: Songs That Make You Laugh From: alanabit Date: 07 Dec 02 - 01:33 PM Nobody has mentioned the brilliant Jake Thackery on the Brit side or Shel Silverstein ("Banned Width" website). For me, Shel Silverstein and Tom Lehrer were the masters of the comedy song. Quite a lot of funny songs have been posted by Mudcatters. These may be well worth having, as there is a good chance that your audience won't have heard them already. Good luck. |

Subject: RE: Songs That Make You Laugh From: Ebbie Date: 07 Dec 02 - 07:26 PM A friend gave me a double-decked boxful of old cassette tapes that he was getting rid of. I have a tape playing continually alongside the computer while I decide what is a keeper, what has songs on it I want to learn and what will eventually go on to other people. One song I hadn't heard in a LONG time is 'Don't Monkey 'Round my Widder (When I'm Gone) by Doc Watson and Chet Atkins (1979) "My fever's high and I'm sufferin' a cold And I'll soon be walkin' on the streets of gold And I'll ask you, boy, not to monkey 'round my widder when I'm gone If you monkey 'round my widder I'm a-tellin' you the fack My big white ghost's come a-sneakin' back And I'll h'ant you, boy, if you monkey 'round my widder when I'm gone" Goes on from there. The things people think of when they're sick! |

Subject: RE: Songs That Make You Laugh From: Midchuck Date: 08 Dec 02 - 06:20 PM I was watching a video that a friend made of the open mike at the 2001 Old Songs, and realized, when Kendall sang "We Got a $5 Fine for Whinin'" that that song should be permanantly dedicated to all the Sensitive Young Singer-Songwriters in the country. Peter. |
