Can anyone help with the Lyrics, origins and recorded sources of this
song please.
We recall it being regularly performed in the Cofa's tree Folk Club Coventry England around 40 years ago by Club Regulars Bernard & Leslie.
First visited the club at the Swanswell Tavern and it subsequently moved on to The Wine Lodge ( Ben Truman's ) - a great place and ecxeedingly well supported in those days.
Remember seeing guests like The Dubliners with Luke Kelly, Ewam MacColl & Peggy Seeger, Buffy Saint Marie, Jeannie Robertson, Louis Killen ....... hosted by Ben and supported by the Kerries including Gibb Todd.
Haven't heard anyone else sing it for years so would be delighted to hear from anyone who remembers those far off days and can help with information.

I know two doggie songs from olden days- one begins, "Whoever took my little brown dog I wish they'd bring him back..." the other starts, "I had a little doggie, used to sit and beg..." Will be glad to give you the rest of either of them, if either is the one you seek.

"...Once I had a yaller dog, his name was Towser Jenkins."
The butcher cut his tail off with a cleaver...
Towser had his trademark on every cat in town,
And when he spotted one, he'd never leave her.

not the one, huh?
