Anyone know of a current recording of "Streets Of Glory"? It may have other names but this is the name that I know it by.

The opening verse is I'm gonna walk them streets of glory I'm gonna walk them streets of glory one of these days, hallelujah I'm gonna walk them streets of glory I'm gonna walk them streets of glory one of these days.

Wally,

This song was performed in the 60's by Bob Gibson and Hamilton Camp, a duo given to rousing versions of songs that sounded traditional, but which were often rewrites.

I don't know of any current recordings. They did have one album that I recall, but which I don't possess.

The song is "I'm Gonna Tell God". I think it is a variation of "The Welcome Table". As sung by Gibson & Camp, it can be found on the CD Gibson & Camp Revisited (FolkEra Records)

There's a Peter Paul and Mary song with that line. Take a look here (Come and Go With Me). The Gibson and Camp version may be closer to what you're looking for, and it's a great CD.

yep...I heard "I'm Gonna Sit at the Welcome Table" done several times in Mississippi in '64 & '65 as part of the civil rights movement...like many of that ilk, it can have as many verses as the singers have time for, with gospel & political verses mixed together....

GOD'S GONNA SET THIS WORLD ON FIRE
Traditional Negro Spiritual

God's gonna set this world on fire
God's gonna set this world on fire
One of these days Hallelujah
God's gonna set this world on fire
One of these days

I'm gonna sit at the welcome table
I'm gonna eat and never get hungry
I'm gonna drink and never get thirsty
I'm gonna sing and never get tired

I think it is a remake of that spiritual. The version in We Shall Overcome!: Songs of the Southern Freedom Movement (Oak, 1963, p. 14; now incorporated into Songs for Freedom) is as follows. The welcome table was both symbolic and real.

I'M GONNA SIT AT THE WELCOME TABLE

I'm gonna sit at the welcome table,
I'm gonna sit at the welcome table
one of these days, hallelujah,
I'm gonna sit at the welcome table, gonna sit at the welcome table
one of these days.

I'm gonna walk the streets of glory,
I'm gonna walk the streets of glory
one of these days, hallelujah,
I'm gonna walk the streets of glory,
I'm gonna walk the streets of glory
one of these days.

I'm gonna tell God how you treat me...

I'm gonna get my civil rights...

I'm gonna sit at Woolworth's lunch counter...

Lyr. Add: LET US SING REDEMPTION'S STORY
By James R. Murray

Let us sing redemption's story
Let us sing the savior's love
Sons of God and heirs of glory
Praise Him 'til ye meet above.

Refrain
Let us sing redemption's story,
Sing aloud the sweet refrain,
Till the angels host in glory
Send the echo back again.

2. Praise, oh praise the love that sought us
While we walked in wicked ways
Praise. oh praise the love that brought us.
Give it everlasting praise.

3. With His mighty arms around us,
We can never faint or fear;
In His keeping who has found us
All the way is bright and clear.

George Jones sang the redemption verse in is "Taggin' Along Lyrics.

WHEN I WAKE UP IN GLORY
Sung by Mahalia Jackson

(First verses only)

I shall fall asleep some day
From this earth I'll pass away
But my soul shall reach up that land

Oh, when I sing on
I've cast faith against the host of sin prevail
I'm gonna wake
We cannot understand.

Oh I will wake, wake, wake up, yes, in glory
And with Jesus
I'll sing redemption story
I shall see His blessed sea'
Yea He's kept me by His grace
When I wake up
Yes in Glory by and by.
