Subject: Streets of Glory From: Wally Macnow Date: 23 Jun 98 - 09:58 AM Anyone know of a current recording of "Streets Of Glory"? It may have other names but this is the name that I know it by. The opening verse is I'm gonna walk them streets of glory I'm gonna walk them streets of glory one of these days, hallelujah I'm gonna walk them streets of glory I'm gonna walk them streets of glory one of these days. Subject: RE: Street of Glory From: Roger Himler Date: 23 Jun 98 - 05:38 PM Wally, This song was performed in the 60's by Bob Gibson and Hamilton Camp, a duo given to rousing versions of songs that sounded traditional, but which were often rewrites. I don't know of any current recordings. They did have one album that I recall, but which I don't possess. Roger in Baltimore |

Subject: RE: Street of Glory From: Joe Offer Date: 23 Jun 98 - 07:25 PM There's a Peter Paul and Mary song with that line. Take a look here (Come and Go With Me). The Gibson and Camp version may be closer to what you're looking for, and it's a great CD. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Street of Glory From: Bill D Date: 23 Jun 98 - 07:26 PM yep...I heard "I'm Gonna Sit at the Welcome Table" done several times in Mississippi in '64 & '65 as part of the civil rights movement...like many of that ilk, it can have as many verses as the singers have time for, with gospel & political verses mixed together.... |

Subject: Lyr Add: I'M GONNA SIT AT THE WELCOME TABLE From: masato sakurai Date: 25 Sep 01 - 10:07 AM I think it is a remake of that spiritual. The version in We Shall Overcome!: Songs of the Southern Freedom Movement (Oak, 1963, p. 14; now incorporated into Songs for Freedom) is as follows. The welcome table was both symbolic and real.
I'M GONNA SIT AT THE WELCOME TABLE
I'm gonna sit at the welcome table,
I'm gonna walk the streets of glory,
I'm gonna tell God how you treat me...
I'm gonna get my civil rights...
I'm gonna sit at Woolworth's lunch counter... ~Masato
