There is a vinyl record out there by Fay McKay (A-Live at the Dunes) with the Twelve Daze of Christmas on it. As to whether or not you can buy it, I have no idea. I do know that some people have managed to get it out there on youtube and some digital mp3s out there on the net as well. You will most likely find it by searching for The Drunken 12 Days of Christmas (and for some reason they have it as being Bob Rivers - which you can obviously tell by listening that it is a woman).

Bill Barclay's version (minus the various interjections, e.g. "C'moan, d'ye no ken the wurrrds?")

Twelve days of Christmas – Bill Barclay version

1st day: wee heavy and a half pint
2nd day: two nips of gin
3rd day: three black and tans
4th day: four Babychams
5th day: five Happy Days (Daze?)
6th day: six Carlsberg specials
7th day: seven rum & cokes (or cum and rokes)
8th day: eight nips of whisky
9th day: nine vodka'n'limes
10th day: ten creme de menthes
11th day: eleven Blue Lagoons
12th day: twelve Alka Seltzers

But seriously, do consider (and I've recommended this every year for the last few!) buying the "Bah Humbug" CD from Greentrax:
www.greentrax.com
G2CD7007
13 tracks, including the above, Eric Bogle's "Santa Bloody Claus", Cyril Tawney (2 tracks), Tom Lehrer, Loudon Wainwright 111, the McCalmans. (The "Macs" have their own version of "Twelve days of Christmas" on another CD........."and a worn-out McCalmans' LP"

The best version which I have heard dates back to the early to mid seventies by Jasper Carrott.

A wee heavy and a half pint, 2 nips of gin, 3 black and tans, 4 double diamonds, 5 babychams, 6 shots of brandy, 7 Carlsberg lagers, 8 'bloody' vodka and limes, 9 halves of shandy, 10 pints of bitter, 11 Bass blue labels, 12 alkaseltzers.

He loses it at '8' and calls his true love a 'silly old hag' misses out parts in his stupour and deviates into 'hey jude' and 'show me the way to go home' before getting back on track but mixes them all up. At eleven he falls off of his stool, and twelve is the 'oh god' of hangovers!

All of the way through he plays his own accompaniement on his guitar and even manages to make that sound drunk by missing notes and getting stuck in a loop, and then screaming at it to slow down when he loses time and misses out parts of the song to try and catch up.

I only have an old version on cassette and do not know if it is available anymore, but it is well worth a listen and superior to the other takes I have come across.

Not exactly the same, but this version gets pretty funny. A glass of mulled wine with every "partridge in a pear tree" with predictable consequences.

It might not be suitable for those on dial-up. The clip's about eight mintes long. The song starts about two minutes in.

I've been reading these posts and can tell you, yes! Ms. McKay is very much alive and well! I emailed her a few weeks ago and she sent me a CD with "The 12 Daze of Christmas" and some other regular holiday songs on it. It's absolutely hysterical! She was very nice and asked for a money order for $25.00 and sent it right away; her address is Emailfaymckay@aol.com. Actually, I sent a little "extra" just for the holiday spirit and got a sweet reply.

Ok this is for all those who want to know what they can about the artist of this song. Her name was Fay McKay and she was a comedienne in the 60's who was from Denver. She performed at a local dinner theater owned by Sammy Toole called Taylor's Supper Club and was located on Colfax Street. She later went on to perform in Las Vegas with Liberace (although she didn't receive the recognition she deserved) I think she has passed away, but I could be wrong (and often am!) I am not sure if there is a record or CD out there that you can buy, but I know that alot of radio stations play it and they have NO IDEA who the artist is. Happy Holidaze all. Susu

I transcribed these myself so some of the gibberish she does as she gets more inebriated may not be how you hear it, but it was the best i can do. I also have to actual song if anyone wants it. Just email me @ susanneboston@msn.com Happy Holidaze folks!

Frank Kelly, an Irish comic, has a great version of the song, but it is not specifically about drinking. It is the more traditional version, but with the consepuences inherent in all those, birds, maids, and lords. Really funny stuff.................

I saw Tich at The Milnathort Crackin weekend ten days ago.

He was in fine form with his "Basle Band", including Stuart Duncan on bass (Scotland's best recording engineer).

This song was sung by Andy Ramage at the final concert.

Milnathort is a great wee friendly festival so keep an eye out for it in early March next year

I seem to recall that I heard it sung by Billy Connelly, or was it Alex Norton - it was a long time ago.

On the twelfth day of Christmas
My true love gave to me
Twelve bloody marys
Eleven scotch and sodas
Ten pints of Guinness
Nine pints of bitter
Eight campari sodas
Seven champagne cocktails
Six double brandies
Five Babychams
Four lager tops
Three brown ales
Two black and tans
And a wee heavy and a half pint

Or words to that effect - you can vary it ad lib, or just become incoherent after the fifth day.

Wassail.

Alan
