I,ve only got a fraction of this lyric a would like the rest including the title.
The wheel of the wagon is broken and we can.t go to town no more
..................... is gone from the ranch house door
goodbye old faithful farewell to the friends that we knew.
Thats all.
Regards Paul.

Black Diamond I don't know if this is the tune you are looking for.I believe it was written in the early 1900s because we had it on an Edison record in 1930.I also believe it was inspired by two artist Ernest Blimy Blumenschein and Bert Phillips in 1898 who broke a wagon wheel 20 miles outside of Taos NM and settled their to do their paintings. If you have a FAX I'll FAX you the entire story due to the fact I'm a slow typer.AS I REMEMBER IT.I don't know who wrote it

THE WHEEL ON THE WAGON IS BROKEN

The wheel on the wagon is broken
It ain't going to turn no more
My days on the prairie are over
There's weeds around the old ranch door

There ain't no campfire smoking
Where we sang when the day was through
The wheel of the wagon is broken
And gone is the west I knew

Goodbye, Goodbye Old Faithful
There's a sign on the the ranch house for sale
So Goodbye,Goodbye Old Faithful
It looks like the end of the trail

My days on the prairie are over
There's weeds around the old ranch door
The wheel on the wagon is broken
It ain't going to turn no more

"The Wheel of the Wagon Is Broken" was written by Michael Carr, Elton Box & Desmond Cox, in either 1925 or 1935, depending on which source you believe.

AMG/All Music Guide lists recordings by Milton Brown, Jack Jackson, Patsy Montana and Roy Rogers.

I couldn't find any lyrics online.

Just a note to Louie Roy- If you haven't read it , Get "Bert Geer Phillips and the Taos Art Colony," by Julie Schimmel and Robert R. White, 1994, Univ. New Mexico Press.
My family was involved in the Taos of those days; an interesting time and place.
I believe 1925 is the date on the song- My mother had the record.

I remember some other lines:

The wheel of the wagon is broken
And it ain't gonna turn no more.
The old grey mare is dead and gone
And there's weeds 'round the ranch house door.

And

I'll hang up my spurs and my saddle
'Though I'm gonna miss them, I know.
My guns with my spurs and my saddle,
'Cos I'm wearing city clothes.

And

Goodbye old Faithful,
Goodbye to the pals that I knew.
Goodbye old Faithful,
The days of the west are through.

I've no idea who made the recording I heard as a child, but as soon as I heard the name of the song today these are the words I remembered. I can't put them in their proper order or remember any others but between us we'll make a fine long ballad!

I remember this distinctly as being sung on the wireless in my childhood, mid-30s ~~ about the same time as Jimmy Kennedy's South Of The Border ~~ a fine Western song written by a London-based Irishman, I now realise but didn't then!

Here it is sung by Patsy Montana on Youtube. Old recording, great diction.

My transcription from the recording at YouTube:

THE WHEEL OF THE WAGON IS BROKEN
H. Elton Box / Michael Carr / Desmond Cox
As sung by Patsy Montana

~ The wheel of the wagon is broken.
It ain't a-gonna turn no more.
My days on the prairie are over.
There's weeds round the old ranch door.

There ain't any campfire smoking
Where we sang when the day was through.
The wheel of the wagon is broken,
And gone is the west I knew.

Goodbye, Old Faithful.
There's a sign on the ranch: "For Sale."
Goodbye, Old Faithful.
Looks like the end of the trail.

My days on the prairie are over.
There's weeds round the old ranch door.
The wheel of the wagon is broken.
It ain't a-gonna turn no more. ~

My heart is feelin' sore
'Cause I'm ridin' no more
And ...(?) blowed the old place down.
Like Lefty an' Jim,
Hook an' Andy an' Slim,
I've drifted away to the town.

REPEAT ~ TO ~
YODEL 4 LINES

This is the one I remember. It was a recording that had belonged to my g.father! (I was born 1952 so think it must have been recorded prior to that!!
The wheel of the wagon is broken,
adn it aint gonna turn no more
the old grey mare is dead and gone
And there's Weeds around the ranch house door.

i was looking through old records, and remembered this song from my childhood. It is a little warped but will still play. I certainly remember the verse about the old grey mare is dead.
