The following from Graham Dixon

Just a few lines to inform you all of the state of play with the petition.

I haven't submitted it yet (it seems to be doing the job where it is.

As well as the 78000+ on line, I have been inundated with hard copies (my postmans got a hernia) there is a pile, about 10 inches high, of A$ sheets all signed.

Interesting point - nice to see that many caring musicians use recycled envelopes.

Although the original date for closing the the petition was 15th March - I am going to let it run a bit longer - Hamish has done a mailout of 30000+ leaflets which should attract more signatures

Meanwhile thankyou all for your support

KEEP MUSIC LIVE

Graham Dixon

Petitions are funny things

Hi

A colleague has just emailed me to say that the petition will not accept his
entry.

When I formatted the petition form I ticked the box that rejects swear
words.

My colleague lives in Scunthorpe (check the spelling for hidden words)

I hope that no one from Wastwater has tried to sign it.

Seiously - if your having this problem, just enter your county

Thanks Graham,

At the risk of upsetting the 'if you don't like it, go to hell' approach of Roger Gall, I'll point out that your Word (.doc) file has a few macros in it. It would be a good idea to remove these. Getting warnings of visual basic errors are liable to be offputting. I'd suggest putting up an rtf format file too.

Thanks for the offer Ed - I've made it so you don't need to be a member of Yahoo

Just go to
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/lancashirefolk/files/Petition/PETITION.doc
It takes several seconds.

There are no hard and fast rules about the layout of the form I'm sure that anyone who can' access (for whatever reason) will be able to copy the petition from the site www.musiclovers.ukart.com and paste it on to a blank sheet.

Regards

Graham

Graham,

I think that this an excellent idea, have added my name and will urge others I know to do the same.

One small point, at present, your 'hard copy' form is only available to yahoo users (ie you have to log in - or join if your'e not a yahoo member - to access it). I worry that this might put some people off, and suggest that it be made more easily available.

I'd be more than happy to host it on my webspace if you wish.

Subject: Petition Clarification
From: Trouble at Mill

Hello

As most of you know I have started a petition as a protest against the
proposed changes to the UK licensing law and the detrimental effect that it
will have on live music in England and Wales.
The petition can be accessed at www.musiclovers.ukart.com

It is going very well in deed and in fact entered the 'top 10' chart for
most active petitions - at number 8.

I have had a couple of cnstructive/well meant criticisms for only listing
residents of the United Kingdom as signatories.
I am in fact being guided by the UK Governments Guidelines on E Petitions at
http://www.number-10.gov.uk/output/page598.asp and although it doesn't say
that 'foreigners' can't sign, it does indicate that signatures must have a
valid postcode, which suggest there may be a problem with non UK addresses.

However I have added this to my opening page :-

NB - if you are not a UK resident we still value your support and your
opinion. By all means sign the petition if you have a genuine interest in
live music in the UK (IE performer/festival goer/etc) I don't know whether
or not HM Government will recognise your signature - so if you feel the need
to sign please leave a comment on the forum stating your interest. I will
submit these along with the final petition.

Hope this helps and I would like to thank everyone for their
help/support/comments and please remember to take a hard copy of the form
with you to clubs/gigs etc to collect 'wet' signatures. These forms are
available at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/lancashirefolk/?yguid=7613491 -
"links" - "petition" let me have them before 15th March

Regards
Graham Dixon www.troubleatmill.com
