Origins: Big Band Theory

DigiTrad:
A MIGHTY FORTRESS IS OUR BRAIN
A SONG IN THE NIGHT
ANCIENT GREEKS
ETERNAL DOOM
FESTIVAL LOVE
GREAT GOD WHO MADE THE UNIVERSE
HAVE A NICE DAY
HONEST AL
I CAN SEE YOUR AURA, AND IT'S UGLY
I'M WORKING ON THE FOOD CHAIN
LIFE IS HARD, BUT IT'S HARDEST WHEN YOU'RE DUMB
MOAMMAR SAID TO HIS MEN
MOBY DICK
RUFUS AND BEVERLY
THE BIG BAND THEORY
THEIR BRAINS WERE SMALL AND THEY DIED
VEAL LIFE BLUES
ZEN GOSPEL SINGING

Anyone ever heard this song?
http://www.aljex.com/bkw/bob/bigband.txt

as I mention at the top of the text, I don't know the authors name and have only ever heard the tune once, and that wasn't even a recording but a live guest appearance on Dr Demento so it may never have been recorded, but I beleive it has.

I know roughly how to sing it (the simple melody, not the chords) so I could if anyone thinks they *almost* recognize it, make an audio file that gets the idea across, though not with any skill :)

thanks!

Never heard it, but surely that should be Big Bang (not Band) Theory? Unless Glenn Miller really is God!

Written by Mark Graham, a hotshot harmonica player and composer of such gems as "Eternal Doom", "I Have Seen Your Aura and It's Ugly", "Workin' On The Food Chain" and "Their Brains Were Small and they Died"

I was ushering in chicago at one of those small theatre productions which was titled "Zoo1" yes, that's Zoo-thousand and one...

They ended the production with...the Big Band Theory of the creation of the universe, danced by aborigines with bones through their noses, etc....I have never forgotten that although it was well, a few years ago (lessee...must be about 15 by now...) ET in Michigan

It was the subject of a column I wrote in COME FOR TO SING MAGAZINE back in the 1970s. The Big Band Theory Of The Creation Of The Universe. Wherever it went after that, I've no idea.

Well, I had posted the lyrics from the site listed in the first message, but then I looked in the Digital Tradtion and found that "Big Band" is already there. I'll crosslink all the Graham songs.

For comparison:

Big BANG Theory Theme Song

The Bing Bang Theory - Theme Song - Bare Naked Ladies

Our whole universe was in a hot dense state,
Then nearly fourteen billion years ago expansion started. Wait...
The Earth began to cool,
The autotrophs began to drool,
Neanderthals developed tools,
We built a wall (we built the pyramids),
Math, science, history, unraveling the mysteries,
That all started with the big bang!

"Since the dawn of man" is really not that long,
As every galaxy was formed in less time than it takes to sing this song.
A fraction of a second and the elements were made.
The bipeds stood up straight,
The dinosaurs all met their fate,
They tried to leap but they were late
And they all died (they froze their asses off)
The oceans and pangea
See ya, wouldn't wanna be ya
Set in motion by the same big bang!

It all started with the big BANG!

It's expanding ever outward but one day
It will cause the stars to go the other way,
Collapsing ever inward, we won't be here, it wont be hurt
Our best and brightest figure that it'll make an even bigger bang!

Australopithecus would really have been sick of us
Debating out while here they're catching deer (we're catching viruses)
Religion or astronomy, Encarta, Deuteronomy
It all started with the big bang!

Music and mythology, Einstein and astrology
It all started with the big bang!
It all started with the big BANG!

I would suspect that the tune is a bit different as well, as I can't quite make the "Big Band" match up to what I recall from the "Big Bang" TV show. I'll let someone who knows better check whether the "Bare Naked Ladies" is a correct citation.

John
