Wow... there are still people out there who know nothing of this 2 in a bar rule... I had someone (who should know better) asking me about it only this week.....

Will try and get to one of those events. Taking Bratling to the 27th one is probably useless, she couldn't remain silent for longer than 3 mins if her life depended on it!

More Information from the Musicians Union

The Licensing Bill will be discussed on BBC Radio 4, You and Yours, on Monday 23 December, between 12.30 and 12.55pm.

Sheila Miller, who runs 'The Cellar Upstairs' folk club in London, will be talking about the live music implications. Stuart Neame, of Shepherd Neame brewery, will talk about the implications for smaller breweries.

See also today's Guardian. Three hard-hitting letters: one from Mike Harding, one from Eliza Carthy, and one from your's truly.

Online petition reached 9,000 this morning: www.musiclovers.ukart.com

Let us be positive - for information, help and ideas on how to make this work, please contact the following. Then can you please let us know what is happening in this thread?

Caroline Kraabel 020 7237 1564.

[Caroline is part of the London Musicians' Collective - HB]
organiser Caroline Kraabel's email is: kraabel@btinternet.com

I for one am looking forward to seeing the remote controlled talking dragon, although if it is red Welsh one, it is probably Kim Kowells

In addition to the above.

Save Live Music

The proposasls for the new licensing legislation will result in the curbing of live music in public places. Whatever music you play, promote or enjoy, legislation contained in the new licensing bill will put it severely at risk

Add your voice to those opposing the legislation by attending the public meeting

When? 1pm, 6 January 2003

Where? Union Chapel, Compton Terrace, Islington, London N1 (Nearest Tube: Highbury & Islington)

Speakers to be announced

Maybe it would be nice if different groups could dress as the kind of performer who would be affected. Say a group as Mummers, a group as Morris (and Clog, and any other sort of) Dancers, bellringers (how would they dress?), choirs, marching bands and so on.

Or has this already been organised?

Any kind of performer who would be affected. What about the guy who had a remote-controlled talking dragon in Basingstoke mall yesterday?

Please circulate

Hello all! seasoning greetings, happy new year etc. PLEASE put the details
of this protest event in your calendar and pass it on to as many people as
possible, and please attend if you can. All the best, Caroline

Monday 27 January 2003, 1:00 PM
Parliament Square, London
Mozart's Birthday Silent Protest

To illustrate the apalling impact that the Government's Licensing Bill will
have on live and community music-making. Bring your instrument (AND A GAG -
medical-type mouth-coverings work well), but don't play it. Contact:
Caroline Kraabel 020 7237 1564.
