Frank (King Street Smith) has sent me details of the 3rd Annual Interplanetary Festival of Skiffle and related Musics "Skiffle Madness" to be held on Sunday February 9th 2003 from 1pm to 5.30pm upstairs at the Cabbage Patch pub 67 London Rd, Twickenham, MIDDX., UK.
As well as Frank's Blues Buddies there is DPN+1 familiar from the Caversham Folk Festival Skiffle sessions, Jim McLean Band, Dr Goodthyme Band, Champagne Charlie Band, Revival, Delaney Group and (sounding like my kind of guys!) The Zimmer Boys.
I haven't been able to make this one in previous years but am putting it on the calendar and keeping fingers crossed.

Well, I had a good time as expected. A large crowd, mostly the usual MHOMs (Middleaged hirsute overweight men!) but some younger folk as well packed into the suitably shabby upper room at the cCabbage Patch. Nice to talk to King Street Smith again (tho'he's still convinced -not having heard me- that I could get a band together in Ascot!) and meet and chat to Leadfingers, Steve Benbows's Protege (and the man himself) and enjoy the odd lemonade.
A variety of bands from the 30 year veterans to the recently formed, washboards galore, the occasional kazoo, at least 2 12-strings and a few 5-string banjos among the guitars, fiddles and mandolins, upright and guitar basses but no washttubs or teachests.
I hope to see the usual suspects at the Clifton Arms in Caversham in the Summer.

RtS
(they say skiffle is dead- well, if it is, it don't lie down)
