I did this same thread last year, and as luck would have it, I'm doing it again. I'll be directing traffic during the annual re-creation of Washington's troops crossing the Delaware. I'll spend the rest of the day ignoring traffic violations, (or letting people off with warnings), and hoping I don't have to arrest anyone. If you're going to be anywhere near the Delaware Valley in Hunterdon or Mercer Counties in New Jersey, do me a favor and behave. (If you're familiar with the area, it's Route 29 from Milford to Bordentown).

Anyone else have to work?

I'm retired but I'll probably be sweeping this block's sidewalks.

Yep, I have a book project in the middle of production, so I'll be working. Fortunately, I don't have to leave the house to put in my 8 hours. Have a happy holiday anyway, RangerSteve.

RangerSteve: I'm very sorry to hear that you will be out in the snow/sleet/rain that they're predicting for the Delaware Valley on Christmas Day. I'll be thinking of you. Thank you for being there and watching out for everyone else's safety.

Every year I tell myself that I should drive over and watch the Crossing re-enactment but I never do it. What time does the ceremony start? Is there a website with more info about it?

To answer your question, my niece and her husband have to work on Christmas Day (she's an Emergency Medical Technician, he's a paramedic), so the extended-family gathering is being postponed until Saturday December 28th so that they can attend. On Christmas Day it'll be just my bachelor-brother and me (the bachelorette); we'll visit my father in his half of the room at the retirement community, then go back to bro's place and microwave some Hormel turkey and mix a box of stuffing... unless the snowstorm makes driving too nasty, in which case I'll stay home with the cat. The presents can wait if they have to!

Anyway, Steve, be careful out there in the bad weather, get back inside where it's warm and dry as soon as you can, and then have a merry Christmas evening!

Thanks again,
Sharon

SharonA: I have to be at Washington Crossing State Park at 10AM, but I believe it starts at noon. Get there early if you plan on coming, it gets pretty crowded. There's a website for NJ state parks, but I don't know the address. It may get canceled because of the snow. It's a good thing Washington was made of sterner stuff, although some of the UK mudcats may disagree. I hope your neice and her husband don't have too much to do at work this Christmas.

By the way, everyone, I'm not complaining about working. I knew it was part of the job. It's just nice to know I'm not alone. Merry Christmas to everyone, especially those that have to work.

My wife is a nurse and will be working, my son's a cop and will be too - it's no biggie, comes with the territory.
We just go and see the kid/ grandkids on 26 Dec instead,
Happy Christmas to all of you

Well, I'm working as a nurse again, so I'll be working. My schedule is Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, (12 hour shifts). This year, I've had to work all the holidays: Halloween, Thanksgiving, my birthday, Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Years Eve and New years Day.

I'm not bitching, though. This schedule does permit me to have every weekend off, which is pretty unusual for a nurse. And weekends tend to be when the gigs happen. Pick on, BlueJay

Steve, thanks for the info. I agree about George Washington; I was reflecting yesterday, as I posted to this thread, that his actual river-crossing was made under much worse conditions that the weather we anticipate for tomorrow (with ice in the river, and with the darkness of night, and with the dread of being discovered and shot at while crossing or when landing in New Jersey!). Lord only knows where we'd be if he hadn't taken the chance he took that night... maybe we'd be complaining today about Tony Blair and about not being allowed to sing folk music in bars! *grin*

Thanks for the thoughts for my niece and nephew-in-law. I too hope that they'll have an uneventful day at work tomorrow, as I hope yours will be just as uneventful! (unarrestful?) Be safe, and have a merry Christmas.

Sharon

Well once more I seem to be working on Christmas day . I'm in Poland working as an offshore medic with a crew of about 20 guys not that I really mind as my other half is working on a rig too so it would be a shame if only one of us were at home today. But I'm sure that we'll make up for it when we get together. I am also working my 30th 12 hour shift in a row so all of you lucky people who sit back and go "hey I'm lucky to be at home " you are.
Any way Merry Christmas to you all and I hope that you are doing the family thing this year and if not get up off your arse and do it.
Cheers
Dylan

Merry Christmas to all, working or not. I'm on Dec 24 and today, which looks like Christmas morning through these bloodshot eyes. It's one of those nights where I just the boots off and get back to bed when the alarm sounds and it's down the pole on on the truck again. Ah well, still beats honest work. Stay safe and warm, all.
