Subject: Lyr Add: WHISPER YOUR MOTHER'S NAME (J Rodgers) From: GUEST,Gene Date: 26 Dec 02 - 08:10 PM WHISPER YOUR MOTHER'S NAME (Jimmie Rodgers) 1. I was seated one day In a gilded cafe, In a window that looked on the street. A face caught my eye In a crowd passing by, And I hastily sprang to my feet. It was my sister's sad face I had left home to trace; Through her pride, she had left us one day, And it brought back to me, As plain as could be, My mother, as I heard her say: CHORUS: If you should see your sister, Do not reproach or blame. Tell her how we've missed her. I love her just the same. Say, my darling, the words that you brought her, Whether in pride or shame. Say that she's still my daughter. Whisper your mother's name. YODEL 2. There were tears on her face As she passed by the place, And I hastily sprang to her side. As we walked along, I said: "Nell, we were wrong. We are sorry we wounded your pride. Your sweetheart is true And still waiting for you. We are willing now you should wed. If you'll only come back, You can marry your Jack And please your dear mother, who said: CHORUS AND YODEL |
Subject: Lyr Add: WHISPER YOUR MOTHER'S NAME (from H Snow) From: GUEST Date: 26 Dec 02 - 08:33 PM Hank Snow's version is only slightly different... WHISPER YOUR MOTHER'S NAME Recorded by: Hank Snow Written by: Jimmie Rodgers I was seated one day in a gilded cafe In a window that looked on the street When a face caught my eye, in a crowd passing by And I hastily sprang to my feet Was my sister's sad face, I had left home to trace Thru her pride she had left us one day And it brought back to me, as plain as could be My mother, as I heard her say: CHORUS: If you should see your sister Do not reproach or blame Tell her how we've missed her I love her just the same Say, my darlin', the words you brought her Whether in pride or shame Tell her she's still my daughter And Whisper your Mother's Name. There were tears on her face, as she passed by the place And I hastily sprang to her side As we walked along, I said Nell, we were wrong We are sorry we wounded your pride Your sweetheart is true and still waiting for you, We are willing now you should wed, If you'll only come back, you can marry your Jack And please your dear mother, who said: CHORUS |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'Mention My Mother's Name' From: GUEST,Gene Date: 27 Dec 02 - 11:22 AM How terrible of me -- This may help explain- Recently, I was diagnosed with AAADD-- Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder. This is how it manifests: I decided to wash my car. As I start toward the garage, I notice that there is mail on the hall table. I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car. I lay my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail in the trash can under the table, and notice that the trash can is full. So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the trash first. But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the trash anyway, I may as well pay the bills first. I take my checkbook out of my briefcase that is on the table, and see that there is only one check left. My extra checks are in my desk in the den, so I go to my desk where I find the bottle of soda that I had been drinking. I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the soda aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over. I see that the soda is getting warm, and I decide I should put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold. As I head toward the kitchen with the soda, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye--they need to be watered. I set the soda down on the counter, and I discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning. I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers. I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly I spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the kitchen table. I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, we will be looking for the remote, but nobody will remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers. I splash some water on the flowers, but most of it spills on the floor. So, I set the remote back down on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill. Then I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do. At the end of the day: the car isn't washed, the bills aren't paid, there is a warm bottle of soda sitting on the counter, the flowers aren't watered, there is still only one check in my checkbook, I can't find the remote, I can't find my glasses, and I don't remember what I did with the car keys. Then when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day long, and I'm really tired. I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail. Do me a favor, will you? Forward this message to everyone you know, because I don't remember who all I sent it to already... |
Subject: Lyr Add: WHISPER YOUR MOTHER’S NAME (Braisted...) From: Jim Dixon Date: 13 Oct 19 - 10:59 PM Jimmie Rodgers is usually credited with writing this song, but this sheet music shows it’s older than that. I have boldfaced the words that are different from what Rodgers sang, but they are pretty insignificant. From the sheet music at Baylor University: WHISPER YOUR MOTHER’S NAME Words by Harry Braisted, music by Stanley Carter. ©1896. 1. I was sitting one day In a gilded café, Near a window which looked on the street. When a face caught my eye In the crowd passing by, And I hastily sprang to my feet. ‘Twas my sister's sad face That I’d left home to trace; Through pride, she had left us one day, And it brought back to me, Just as plain as could be, My mother, as I heard her say: CHORUS: If you should see your sister, Do not reproach or blame. Tell her how we have missed her. I love her just the same, My darling! Say that this word you’ve brought her, Whether in pride or shame. Tell her she's still my daughter. Whisper your mother's name. 2. There were tears on her face As she passed by the place, So I hastily stepped to her side. And as we walked along, I said: "Nell, we were wrong. I’m so sorry we wounded your pride. Your old sweetheart is true And still waiting for you. And we’re all willing now you should wed. If you'll only come back, You can marry your Jack And please your dear mother, who said: CHORUS |
