Subject: RE: Tech: Do I need new glasses? From: BlueJay Date: 28 Dec 02 - 04:13 AM Looks the same as always on my computer. If your vision is OK otherwise, I'd suspect an inadvertant change in your computer's text size settings. (If you have children around, I would REALLY suspect this). On your explorer bar, click "view", then "text size", where you can change the size of the text. I keep mine set on "medium". If you really need new glasses, select "large" until you get them. Hope this helps, BlueJay |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do I need new glasses? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 28 Dec 02 - 04:35 AM If it's only a change in font size, probably not, especially if the change was sudden. Of course, if you have this problem with everything else, sudden headaches, tired eyes by lunchtime, then yes, go get your eyes checked. I spend a fair amount of my time risk assessing people at work on their terminals. I'm stunned by the amount who have such dreadful habits (slouching, resting wrists on lumpy rests, leaning on one wrist whilst mousing etc) and then complain about the pain in their arms. I tell them how to sit, how to alleviate the pains and how to save themselves from DVT, RSI and Carpal Tunnel. I go back a few months later and they're still complaining despite making the changes. When I ask - did you make the same changes at home, they say 'I didn't realise that was the same thing.....' Seriously, we sit at our computers here, how many of us are giving ourselves trouble for the future by the way we sit now? And yes, I'm included in that.... I've taken my wristbands off for the holidays and I'm already leaning on my wrists! LTS |

Subject: RE: Tech: Do I need new glasses? From: Bill D Date: 28 Dec 02 - 10:47 AM on a computer, unlike a newspaper, you can increase the font size with a simple click...or even without clicking the mouse. You can surf and read and chat etc, with almost NO use of the mouse if necessary. You can even have this text read TO you by a funny computerized voice. On the other hand, it can be pretty tricky to lean back and relax in front of the fire in an easy chair while chatting on Mudcat...not impossible, but it sure requires some work! |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do I need new glasses? From: Mr Red Date: 28 Dec 02 - 12:09 PM View >Text Size> Normal? When I do a "ctrl c" and flick one of my scroll wheels (I got two just to be flashy) it hits the text size property somehow. Like someone just hit the vol max button! Who knows what properties get hit in other ways. Microsoft don't. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Do I need new glasses? From: Bill D Date: 28 Dec 02 - 12:46 PM Mr Red...what happens on your computer is 'usually' related to the browser YOU are using, and the settings within it...in the one I am using right now (Mozilla) I can either use the single scroll wheel, or hit 'ctrl +' to increase the font, BUT I have the choice of having the mouse wheel control the font size, scrolling the page up & down, or moving back and forward in browsing 'history! ....in another browser,(Opera), simply hitting + and - will change font size. And there are programs which will override these settings ans control it all externally to the browser.. It is pretty amazing what can be done, and takes a lot of 'messing' to keep up with it all! |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do I need new glasses? From: GUEST,Stilly River Sage sans-a-cookie Date: 28 Dec 02 - 11:28 PM You can program the wheel on many of the new mouse-devices to do many things or bring up a menu of functions (I use a Logitech TrackMan wheel--a track ball moved with my thumb instead of rolling all over with a mouse. Clicking on the middle wheel skips a page for me, but I could use it to change the font size, etc.) I just finished putting an under-the-desk keyboard shelf in to lower the level of my keyboard. I'm curious, Liz--what wristbands are you talking about? SRS |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do I need new glasses? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 29 Dec 02 - 07:30 AM I usually wear leather bracelets, both have large fastenings (a buckle and a press stud) which hurt when I press on them so I keep my wrists up. One of them is metal, and protects my wrist on the bike too. LTS |
