I believe there's a shanty festival in Lancaster over Easter. Ask Col K or Noreen they are of the Shellback Chorus and will probably be there.

Sal

There's the Lancaster Maritime festival over the Easter weekend, friend Mariner, and the Shellback Chorus are booked.

Also the Mudcat gathering in Portaferry in the County Down, someone else can tell you when that is- though I don't know how many shanties will happen there! :.)

I'll see what else I can think of.

The gang around Hull and Beverly are realy worth a visit.. I heard some great singing at Beverly.. Enough heart and voices to follow anything you might throw at them.. I had an unforgetable visit.. All the best, Guy

There are several other shanty festivals throughout the year, and more festivals with shanty sings, (I'll post the Shellback Chorus booking list if you like!) but Mariner's looking for Jan to April, before most festivals start.

I hear nothing but great things about the Lancaster festival. Last year's line-up was a who's-who in shanty singing.

Yes, Lancaster is the foremost shanty festival here, though Liverpool comes close :0)
Only problem is that as it's funded in large part by the local council (as I understand it), the funding is always uncertain until the last minute, so there is always the chance that it might be cancelled at short notice.

As far as I'm concerned, Liverpool is certainly closer! ;-)
