Subject: RE: Roll of Honour - 2002 From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 01 Jan 03 - 01:32 PM I'm hoping someone on that list might leap up and do a Dave Swarbrick on us by not being dead after all. |

Subject: RE: Roll of Honour - 2002 From: *daylia* Date: 02 Jan 03 - 12:14 PM Thanks, Fiolar! I didn't realize Ann Landers had passed on ... do we still have her twin sister "Dear Abby" with us? Also, I couldn't find George Harrison on your lists, but I believe he deserves mention. "Give me love, give me love Give me ... peace on earth ..." Blessings to all in the coming year daylia |

Subject: RE: Roll of Honour - 2002 From: Nigel Parsons Date: 02 Jan 03 - 12:28 PM Fiolar: Great work; any chance of an alphabetic list to make it easier to spot omissions such as those mentioned above. I hate to use the 'V' word, but if required I'll re type-set it. Nigel |

Subject: RE: Roll of Honour - 2002 From: Schantieman Date: 02 Jan 03 - 12:44 PM How about Ray Cope - Moose ? He brought folk music, dance and song to hundreds (thousands?) in the Birmingham & Liverpool areas. Singer, fiddler, Morris & Sword dancer (principally with Jockey Men's Morris (founder member, 1950) and Southport Swords), Mummer, fool, social dance caller.... and my father-in law. Dancing a few weeks before his death from cancer, 28 September aged 72. RIP |

Subject: RE: Roll of Honour - 2002 From: Lanfranc Date: 02 Jan 03 - 06:20 PM Thank you, Fiolar - I think! There are some great names on that list, as there were in 2001. Recordings and films will keep the memory of many of them alive, but we are all the poorer for their passing. That list, plus Blair's Jeremiad, plus endless rain and grey skies! SAD, here I come! Subject: RE: Roll of Honour - 2002 From: alanabit Date: 02 Jan 03 - 07:37 PM Day-liah, I think the reason that George Harrison did not appear on the list was the fact that he died on November 29, 2001. It's sure an impressive - if very sad list. Who would have thought we would lose the great Spike Milligan and Jake Thackray in the same year? |

Subject: RE: Roll of Honour - 2002 From: Fiolar Date: 03 Jan 03 - 08:44 AM Thanks to all. Your comments are most appreciated. As I stated, apologies for those names I have missed, but some entertainers are never listed in the sources I use. I thought originally about an alphabetical list, but felt that listing those who have passed on on a monthly basis seemed to be the accepted way of doing obituaries. As far as I am aware Abigail Van Buren is still alive and kicking. Happy New Year. |

Subject: RE: Roll of Honour - 2002 From: *daylia* Date: 03 Jan 03 - 09:54 AM I just searched 'george harrison' on the web, and you're right alanabit - he died Nov 29/01. The youngest Beatle, too. :-( Time goes faster as we get older I guess ... coulda sworn he died last summer. Sorry about that Fiolar... daylia |

Subject: RE: Roll of Honour - 2002 From: Brian Hoskin Date: 03 Jan 03 - 10:12 AM Thanks for this Fiolar. One omission, John B Spencer (singer, guitarist, writer) died in May. |

Subject: RE: Roll of Honour - 2002 From: Susanne (skw) Date: 03 Jan 03 - 09:20 PM Thanks, Fiolar. How on earth do you do this? Do you actually start compiling with the New Year? Thank you for mentioning Wolfgang Preiss, who was a far more versatile actor than the roles of German military men for which he became known internationally would suggest. As to 'Dear Abby' (real name Pauline Phillips): In a recent newspaper article I saw her described as 'middle-aged' in 1956, so at least she must be getting on a bit. |
