*: I think a kærminde is a kind of flower, but I'm not too sure... weren't in any of my dictionaries... :/ |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Jeg gik mig ud en sommerdag From: Freso Date: 05 Jan 03 - 06:51 AM Ah, yeah... :) And I'm not really sure what trouble æ, ø, and å could cause - they're just some other ASCII numbers! But then again, I'm all for converting to XML and UTF, where you can actually use whatever character you want, whereever you want to, except for <, >, &, ', and " due to their special meanings in XML... :P |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Jeg gik mig ud en sommerdag at høre From: Haruo Date: 04 Jan 03 - 11:41 PM Freso: "Well... æ, ø, and å are all part of the Danish alphabet... I can't help it! :P Uhm, and what's 'preterbritannic'? :)" I'm all in favor of letters like æ, ð and ý (and, since I'm an Esperanto-user, ĉerpaĵoj el hieraŭ (snippets of yesterday) etc., but Joe Offer gets on my case when I try to use them in Subject lines. He also objects to things like © or ® or ³ etc. etc. (And it's not just him; there are technical problems that motivate the complaint.) "Preterbritannic" is a hapax legomenon, I think. At least Google doesn't record it. I just made it up yesterday. It means "beyond the British Isles", and alludes to the widespread notion that folk songs are all in English, Welsh, or one of the Gaelics. (I'm kidding; people are actually aware that there is a whole world of folksong out there, but it's only head knowledge type awareness.) |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Jeg gik mig ud en sommerdag at høre From: Haruo Date: 03 Jan 03 - 11:58 PM Thanks, Freso. I'm looking forward to seeing more, not to mention translations if any. I have in the past been advised not to use any non-ASCII characters in the Subject line, so I was shocked to see you had ø in there. Haruo big fan of the preterbritannic ;-) |

POST SCRIPTUM: This is my first Lyr Add (and apparently the first Danish as well), so... please let me know if I've done anything wrong, or should do anything differently next time... for yes, there will be a next time... I've plenty of Danish trad. songs lying about.... ;) Note: We allow only standard English Characters in thread titles and other HTML-intensive locations, because nonstandard characters tend to cause us technical and search problems. I changed the thread title, but it's OK to have special characters in message titles and in the texts of messages. Thanks. -Joe Offer- |
