Martin Sheen, Admiral Shanahan and Rev. Bob Edgars of the United Council of churches are on NBC, as I write this, speaking out against the coming war, saying it is going to be a recuting event for El Quada... Martin Sheen was very good, reminding us, at this time we are ruled by fear that we only have fear to fear, and that we should put the face of the non-violant Christ on each Iraqi child. The Admiral stated that in his research and opinion, Iraq poses no military danger to us at present, but siege war against it, can give Irag the opportunity to do great damage and us to do great harm to civilians.
Cheers all,
Larry

Martin Sheen has been doing Catholic social justice work like this for decades. He is close to the Berrigan family too, and in a recent obituary thread on Phillip, I posted a brief interview with Martin on CNN, in which he read from the mass card from the funeral. It was very moving.

He seems to be one celebrity who doesn't get a lot of grief for taking strong stands on controversial issues (he has been arrested a ton of times for no nukes, School of the Americas, etc) and voicing his opinions in interviews. There are a few other long time Hollywood political activists I also admire--Ed Asner and Mike Farrell among them.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - I fantasize waking up one day to find that the "The West Wing" is reality, and Dubya is fiction. Old men have their dreams!

And I miss "Lou Grant" which never seems to be repeated over here in the UK.

Martin Sheen and Ed Asner would both get my vote!

Alan

Scariest thing I ever went through was the dream I had last week. (during the night of Jan 1st. or the early morn of Jan 2nd, if you prefer) I was in downtown Bagdad. It was extremely real. I sure did not dream of "Jeannie." Scared the "Hell" INTO me! I actually had to lie there for about an hour after I woke up to get myself together. Took me a few days to get loose of that nightmare--for real! War is not a good thing. Never has been, never will be.
W-a-r spells death.
