Julie - Excellent songs what you wrote

Looking forward to hearing more & getting to join in

Sorry about the mad chap - I think he had some sort of problem as he was quiet as a mouse when he first arrived and insisted on sitting on the floor in the corner (until I got him a chair)

I think he took our encouragement as a sign

I was particularly fed up with him when he stole my seat & my beer

But he obviously had problems beyond drunkeness - life's difficult sometimes

At least he wasn't Scottish -- he'd have insisted it had been written by Burns, if my experience is anything to go by!

Steve, I have to say that it was the very FIRST time that I'd heard the Wild Rover sung at our Singaround, and although well sung, I for one would rather not repeat the experience. From what I recall through my painkillered haze, the inebriated local started it off & there was no hope but to carry it on & drown the guy out! I'm sure every session has this sort of 'happening' occasionally, but I wouldn't like us to be tarred with that brush!

Please come, I promise we won't do it again......

BTW, I've just heard that Moira Craig will NOT be at Herga on Feb 3rd, the date for her appearance has been rescheduled to Feb 10th. Apologies, just take me with a pinch of salt...

Mind you, this means I may get to Ashwell on the 3rd now :-)

Re your "annebriated friend": is he an most unfortunate soul who's been prevented from becoming inebriated? No wonder he felt he had to get carried away!

I'm not sure I want to go to a place where they sing "The Wild Rover": when you get to my age, there are some things you'd rather forget (after all, I manage to forget many other songs)!

Well, maybe I might ...

Steve

IanC: Sorry, won't be able to make your session on 3rd Feb as I'll be going down to Herga to listen to Moira Craig, back permitting!

Others may be able to come along to the Bushel & Strike in Ashwell on Feb 3rd & I shall shout your session from the rooftops!!!!

JulieB: Your songs huh??? Well no wonder I hadn't hear them before, but they're both excellent & very catchy, we were all picking up the choruses after a while. Next time we'll do better! But we'll obviously want to hear other songs of yours too, am looking forward to the next time you come along :-)

Ross,
Thanks, but don't worry about people not joining in. I'd have been very surprised if everyone had known the singalong one that I did - coz I only wrote it last year!"Potcheen & Potatoes") Cathy & Trevor have heard me do it around MK a few times, and that's why they could join in a bit. I decided to do that one after somebody suggested I do something that our annebriated friend wouldn't know (as he was getting a little carried away during the Wild Rover which had just been sung). I knew he wouldn't know P&P! Also, you wouldn't have known the Valentine one either ("Secret Valentine") as that's mine too. First one (unacc) wasn't mine ("Brisk Young Sailor - Trad").

Hi Julie, yes 10th Feb is a Barton night, hope you can make it & Steve too! I've been wanting to come along to the New Bradwell night & I think the 17th Feb is the next time we don't clash with it, so I might get along then. Catch you soon :-)

There is a session on the 10th

We try & keep some information on this web page:

Lovely singaround on Monday. Will definitely trek down again from MK sometime. Have almost persuaded fellow 'catter Steve Parkes to come along too. Will probably make the 10th Feb (are you meeting then?) but not Jan 27th (Monthly sess. at New Inn, New Bradwell MK).

Sorry MGAS, v. busy at moment. I don't know the song, but I like Karine Polwart's stuff, is it on a Malinky CD?

Get yourself a wheelchair and I'll push you around Trafalgar Square on the 27th.

Hey Breezy, Glad you got back OK! I was shouting for the Dragon of course :-) You're going to the Demo? Good man yourself! Bedford sounds good, 13th Feb went in my diary straightaway & I understand you're partnering Himself?

Am at home & concentrating on music while I'm signed off this week. And Mudcat of course :-) Needs must I will have to get out less this year so will need to be choosy & conserve strength *sniff*

Ross: Yes, I recall it being weird, confirm later then!

Piers: We missed you Chap! I need Mandolin on 'Thaney' by Karine Polwart, do you have the CD?

Well said Guru

It was a grand night out

Many thanks to Mummers & all that attended & gave their all

Hope to see you all again

The 13th at Bedford sounds a good do - we have had interchange between the two groups in the past but Thursday's my fish & chip night

Keep well (& you've all done very well)

Guru - I can't e-mail Bull address until tonight - from memory it might be thebullpub@golfcourse.co.uk - yes, it's that weird

I was trvl'g back from Carediff, sounds like you had a good 'un!
Did St George win ?
Mark Hughes was voted Welsh sports personality of the year, on the strength of Wales beating depleted Italian and Germanic sides.
The 3 medals girl didn't even merit a mention.
Sodding Welsh.
Free booze and food after, shame I had to drive.
Mon 20th I'm at the Staines folk club so I'll pencil in the 27th after the demo
I see El Gecko is appearing at the Bedford Folk Club on Thurs 13th Feb.Maybe we can plug Barton if some of you come along. Its a good club to visit.

What a GOOD night that turned out to be!!!

The Ashwell Mummers DID turn up (thanks IanC) & put on a Fine Show. The only drawback was that they turned up on time when only half our sessionees were assembled! So the stragglers missed the whole thing - well, they'll just have to wait till next year, that'll teach 'em!

An excellent mix of singers & players bristling with instruments - deep joy. 50% of the Mumming fraternity stayed & joined in on the 'Round the Table' & we had newcomers (& NewCats) too! And fresh audience possibly being tempted to 'give it a go' at future sessions.

Wonderful! Thanks to all who came along :-)

MGAS, I don't think I'm going to be able to make it tonight, have a good one. I'm sure I would have thought the Wicker Man was scary if I was very wee, but I just thought it was rather silly when I saw it recently. Nowadays I practice the burning of pious, zealot policeman for kicks, without all that hey nonny nonny bonking in the graveyard - it's so uncomfortable.

Hi CatsAll - survived Straw Bear though didn't get around to as much as I'd have liked as everywhere was so crowded. Am mobile enough to get along tonight, but the dancing on the tables is definitely out!

IanC: didn't get to check with you in the fish & chip shop after your usual professional performance with Stevenage Sword but I hope you guys are able to come along tonight. Here's Health to the Ashwell Mummers :-)

Ross: No, it's not a cow - I saw the Bear & the Little Bear getting dressed halfway through the parade, so I'm certain. There was a twinned bear along from Waldurn too & contained a German person who demanded to be kissed if he caught anyone.

Piers: Am pretty sure flypast tonight is a no-go I'm afraid. Am a bit worried about driving with this tricky back so am keeping things to a minimum. Is there any way you can get along tonight???

ps Piers: The Wicker Man was very scary - I was only small when it came out & I was behind the settee at times! The CD sounds like a good purchase though.

Breezy: Are you coming tonight? Or are you teaching?

My convalescence (as short as possible) will be including listening to the complete set of MudCatter CD's (ad infinitum) which I am loading now, can't wait!

I always felt sorry for Bernard Cribbens

He was so nice in the railway children

I was brousing in MVC & found you can buy the CD of the original soundtrack to `the wicker man' - & it's all celtic folk

PS - it's not really a real straw bear - it's a cow dressed up

Thanks for the luck - I think we're going to need it with the Mummers coming

Come-All-Cats!

Singaround / Session at the Bull Pub in Barton-le-Clay, Bedfordshire, UK on Monday 12th January, kicking off at 8.30pm. All acoustic instruments & voices very welcome :-)

Sounds like we've got a 'definite' performance from the Ashwell Mummers to look forward to at this session (delayed from December 30th due to ill-health), so come & enjoy the show!
