If I'm not entirely mistaken, guest simon wants to signal to us that the line "Can you count the times that we heard the chimes of Notre Dame" is actually from a different song, "Nannas Song" by Ralph McTell.

Well, not completely different. Clichés about cities or countries are the dayly bread of authors who have nothing new to say. Misspelled name-dropping (see Saint-Germain-des-Prés) adds to this impression, and to the suspicion that Lord Burgess's calypsos are not all that authentic either.

Joe- I think that they're all the same person. "Writing" some of those songs, of course, was an exercise in selective (shall I say) borrowing: Day-O and Yellow Bird were adaptations of trad. material; I'm not sure about the others.

Say, Dick - I did kinda wonder, and then I dismissed the idea, but now you bring it up - is Irving Burgess of "The Seine" and "El Matador" and other Kingston Trio songs the same as Irving Burgie, who wrote "Jamaica Farewell," "Day-O," "Island in the Sun," and "Yellow Bird"???? My Burgie album says that Burgie performed under the name "Lord Burgess" and wrote 35 songs that were recorded by Harry Belafonte. Burgie studied at Juilliard, University of Arizona, and the University of Southern California.

Oh, yeah! THAT'S the rest of the last verse, and THAT'S what they were saying in French, St.Germain le Pre! Thanks Joe, and it's only plagerism if I wrote it in the first place. Typing doesn't count.
And, as I recall, one group (the Kingston Trio, obviously, from Joe's post) sang "mmmm" to lead into the chorus, and the other sang "oo-oo".
Besides, I just copied your copy to my files so I'LL have the right words next time.

That's not right.
If I supply you with all the pieces I can remember, maybe you can put them in the correct order, hey?
