Sounds like good news for many in that neck of the woods.

I would imagine that it is the only place anything like it anywhere near that place...but does the coffeehouse have a name?

One thing that Kendell left out , is the fact that, the performers will be on live TV. Now where else is there a coffe house such as this, And the coffee and snacks are free. I guess in truth that is fact two.

Kendall, thanks for starting this thread!

I remember Beth was working on getting a coffeehouse on TV. She approached me last year about it but I thought it fell through. I'm glad she kept on with it. I guess I better dust off the repertoire and get down there next week.

And this is a call to all those here in Maine to get over there and support Beth's endeavor. Uncle Jaque, no excuses now. Harpswell is no big city and this isn't too difficult to find. Bring Auntie along so you don't get bogged down with house cleaning. I expect Charlie Noble will be along and a few more. C'mon gang, rally round the flag and give three cheers for Mama Beth.

Be forewarned that there will be brutish loud types at this gathering and i know that there will be at least one accordion player. I know they had a banjo there last week.I also know for a fact that at least 2 of the performers do not read music. I point this out so that you might have some knowledge of the calibar of talent you can expect at this gathering.
Of course there is always the possibility that Morse will show up again. I almost killed myself laughing last Saturday.

So, that's why you were all red in the face! Gotta stop being a Mainer, and let it out!

Remember the story of Mark Twain who was supposed to have done a performance in Maine. He told his best stories, and, no one laughed. After the show, he overheard a man say to his wife, "That man was so funny, I had all I could do to keep from laughing right out loud."

Can I be loud and brutish and still perform?

Last Saturday I went to this coffeehouse. I persuaded my brother in law to join us and he brought my niece along. I wasn't sure what to expect so we got there early to scope things out.

There is a large stage in a studio. There was a scattering of chairs and a jumble of stuff in the back of the room. There were two TV cameras. There was a nice assortment of refreshments donated by local sponsors, scones, coffee, popcorn, and apple cider.

The format is still developing. They have a large stage in a little studio. Performers get abut 20 minutes. Last time there was a rock band from Old Orchard followed by my brother-in-law, a bluegrass duo, myself, and Jets. Then they got everyone up on stage for a grand finale.

We had a great time. The show is broadcast live and then is repeated at least once on Tuesday. Two friends caught the show though I didn't tell anyone about it.

So come on out and support Beth's production. It's free and fun, what more could you ask for. Just be carefull. I recited The Ballad Of Three Waves and that has some rather risque language (slut, Goddamn, bitch, etc.). Beth had to tell me afterwards not to use such language.

Sooo.. Naemanson; I reckon I'd probably better stow "Cruisin' Round Yarmouth", eh?

Very well, then; I can likely come up with enough old-time Yankee Gospel stuff to fill 'em up with it inside of 20 minutes. Whenever the "profane" is discouraged, just hit 'em with both barrels of the "Sacred", I figure.

I had sort of planned to come up last Saturday, and even Aunt Mahthah was open to the idea. We went to Brunswick earlier in the day to deliver my late Mother's power-reclining chair to a Cousin who could use it up there, and by the time we got home were just frozen and tired enough to call it a day. Another factor is that I really hate to expose my guitars to sub-zero temps any more than I have to, even for short periods of time. Even if it doesn't harm the instrument, it sure raises hob with the tuning!

We were delighted by the visit of a very talented young Lady and her Mom (an old chum of mine) for me to provide some introductory guitar lessons. She had sung an a-capella solo of a Joan Baez song at the previous Brunswick Open Door C-House, and is to play with the Band in a local Contra-Dance to benefit the Habitat for Humanity this Weekend.
So I will have to choose between that and the Harpswell CH on Saturday night should we be up to going out then.

There seems to have been some confusion as to directions in the original post; has anyone gotten them thrashed out and all together someplace?

Is that Friday Night thing at the UU Church in Brunswick a regular event? If so, what time does it get rolling?

Another question and I'll go away; What channel carries the feed from the CH, and is it available on cable TV outside of the immediate Brunswick / Harpswell area? Has anyone taped any of it?
Do they mind if anyone brings a video-cam to record the festivities? I'm assuming that anyone performing with a TV camera in their face will not mind having their picture took.

Hope to see you sometime within the next 13 weeks!

I guess I'll start with the last question. If you bring a video tape they will make a copy of the show for you. You'll have to pick it up later in the week but it will be yours.

The Brunswick Coffeehouse is a regular venue on the 3rd Friday of every month except July. The venue doesn't change, open mike followed by a featured performer. Sign up is at 7:00 sharp and the sign up sheet fills up fast so don't be late.

Directions:

I go down past Cook's Corner on 24. The Mountain Road is about half way to the end. Look for the right turn. There is a street sign that says Mountain Road on it. About a mile up the road is the turn for the Recycling Center. Turn right and bear right up into the parking lot. That's the studio.

You can also reach the other end of Mountain Road if you take Maine Street through Brunswick but I can't tell you where to turn. Either way there is only one turn involved, on to Mountain Road.

I won't be able to make it this week, I have a previous commitment.

There is now an open mike night at the waldo theater in Waldoboro as well. Not sure about details (day time etc) but I heard the last one was gangbusters. Call or e-mail kevin@waldotheater.org for info

Donna tells me there is no one for tomorrow night to perform. Bummer!
I'd go, but, I don't want to be the only one. I've done three of them already.
