Subject: A Passion For The Blues From: GUEST Date: 12 Jan 03 - 10:57 AM Hi to Steve Dawes & Helen Pitt: North Yorkshire,& all fellow List Members Ragamuffin Brian Here: peering over "The Parapet" after a long cold night on the "Night Owl Catering Stand". It's frost white & 7 degrees below out there! I could almost be in Chicago!! Couple of footnotes to add to the Ragamuffin Webcast "A Passion For The Blues". Due to an audio technical fault in the original streaming program, a revised, & much improved audio quality version of the program has now been uploaded back onto the streamer. Also, the Playlist, so ably composed by my sidekick "Miscreant Mike", has now had a link added which will take listeners through to a full version of a Blues Collectors article: "The Highway Of The Blues", reprinted from an old back issue from the National Geographic. For those who have never read this particular article, we both highly recommend it's reading & viewing!! (Link From The Playlist Website) Right, amendments having been posted, our very best wishes to you ALL at the start of this New Year!! "There is no love, no deeper love, than that of a child for its Mother 'cept for the music, & all that it gives From one gray haired old fool to another!!!" Ragamuffin Brian "The ol silver fox and me have been a tad waylaid of late in our salt mines, resurfacing on my birthday with a new Ragamuffin show. In the current show from the studio at the back of the 'stoke woods we put the spotlight on the creativity of Alice Stuart. Two classic styles: Alice wrenching the soul out of the blues with her electric guitar and vocals; Alice's great interpretations of classic country blues of Nehemiah Skip James and Blind Willie McTell. Alice began her career in the early 60s in Seattle, going down to San Francisco for the 1964 Berkeley Folk Festival and getting a recording deal with Arhoolie Records. Met Frank Zappa and joined the Mothers of Invention for six months (check out the list on Freak Out, Alice is there in line with Igor Stravinsky and Howling Wolf) in 1966. Recorded two albums for Fantasy in 1970 and 1972. Scorched the walls of all the clubs up and down the West Coast during the 1970s. Came to Europe with her trio Snake as support on Van Morrison's ground breaking Its Too Late To Stop Now tour. Knocked me flat on my arse at the Colston Hall. Alice hung up her guitar to raise a family till the 1990s. Alice Stuart's talent shines through like the proverbial diamond in the mud.
