I have recently moved to South London and would like to get in touch with other musicians. could anybody recommend any blues clubs/jam sessions I don't mean professional stuff. Just a good 'ol blow in a pub session or folk club. I'm in the SE3 area, but I guess I can be pretty mobile.

Manitas, Leadfingers and Dave Bryant are probably the best people to talk too on that just give them a PM...but you will have to register on mudcat first. Im in East London as is Manitas and Liz the Squeak and Micca.

Hope to see you at a session sometime

Cat

Some tips ...

The Anchor, Lewisham every Thursday evening 9.30ish

The Duke Of Edinburgh, Lee Green every Wednesday evening 9.30ish

The Hollydale, Nunhead last Sunday every month 4-7ish

The Woodman, Lee High Road every Sunday evening 9.00ish (this one is slightly harder than the others to "break into", given that the players are a) of a very high standard and b) have been playing together for some considerable time. However worth checking out.

Not forgetting the Wednesday night Tudor Barn jobbies (Eltham).

I haven't much info on these.

Also I'm vaguely aware there's a session at a pub called Tir na n-Og in Wandsworth. But I don't know much about it either.

You will very welcome at the Anchor in Lewisham on a Thursday, starts around 9ish, used to start later but hoping to get it going a bit earlier in future, any type of music is welcome here, and we are not hard to break into! a real friendly crowd.

Hope to see you Thursday, by the way what do you play?

Nearly all the venues that have been recommended, although good in their own right, would not really suit a blues guitarist. They are acoustic Irish and english traditional folk. - Exception being The Tudor Barn which is a more open session and has a stage and PA systewm every other week have a look at my web page woodsie's world
There are Jams and jazz events listed as well as folk.

GUEST, you can send a personal message to any member(PM) once you become a member yourself. Just click on membership at the top and fill in the spaces and, bingo, you're a member. Then, to send a personal message to somebody, you just click on the PM next to their name. There are all sorts of other nifty things you can do as a member, as well. Have a look at FAQ to find out more. I've only been a member for a few weeks and I can recommend it. Can't help with the East London bit I'm afraid. I'm a bit far away, as in Sydney, Australia. Good Luck!

Jenny

Hi,

My name is Geneva. Besides my day job, I am a musician. I am a vocalist in the MSBB (My Sister Blues Band) In the plugged in Blues town of Chicago, IL. USA. I would love to come to London and jam with some of you serious bluesmen and women and also gig a little as well.

I just happened to find this website and I noticed that you seemed to know what was happening. Are you a musician? Hit me back on my e-mail address VirtSurg@aol.com and let me know wh's happening.

Thanks,
Geneva

There's Croydon Folk Club on a Monday night at Ruskin House that has a variety of music - think there's also a blues session/club on a Sunday? Then there's Tooting Folk Club on a Friday night too. Occasional sessions (irish) held at the Blyth Tavern in Catford too.

Sarah

In East London there's the Spotted Dog, Upton Lane, E7. On Thursdays there's a (nominally) Irish session from about 9pm and on Fridays there's a bluesish session. You may find music going on at other times as there is a resident band who will play at the drop of a hat.
