Subject: Mel Bay Irish Session book? From: MikeOQuinn Date: 14 Jan 03 - 11:33 AM Friend requested that I take a look at this book. Anyone able to give suggestion one way or another with regards to it? I know that the good Mel Bay stuff is worth twice the price, and that there's some Mel Bay publications that aren't worth the paper they're printed on, so I was wondering what the general consensus was on this one. Blicky-thingie for book Thanks! -J |

Subject: RE: Mel Bay Irish Session book? From: IanC Date: 14 Jan 03 - 11:38 AM It doesn't rate an entry in the Countries/Ireland section of the Basic Folk Library so nobody has reviewed it before on Mudcat. There are quite a few good Irish song/music books there. Why not take a look. If anybody does think it's the best thing since sliced bread, review it here and I'll add it in. :-) |

Subject: RE: Mel Bay Irish Session book? From: GUEST,Sharon G Date: 14 Jan 03 - 12:41 PM This book was compiled by Cari Fuchs, concertina/hammer dulcimer player, formerly of Pittsburgh and now from the Boston area. There are settings of many common tunes, so it's a good general resource for session tunes. Only cautionary note- it's got a few peculiarities in the settings here and there because of the instruments she plays- a fiddler or whistle player might have done it just a bit differently. Also, variations are sometimes a little confusing. I think overall it is a good resource and worth purchasing if you don't have a similar collection. |
