Nigel Parsons said
"How can you fit an extra shopping street into the already crowded London scene?"

The answer is that Diagon Alley moves around. In the first movie it was in the City, tucked behind Leadenhall Market. In the second film it has leaped across the river and is opposite Borough Market between the Wheatsheaf and the Market Porter

Amoret's class have won the chance to go to the Albert Hall Harry Potter reading by JK Rowling. Apparantly the Albert Hall is going to be done up as Hogwarts.
The whole of 7G are in transports of delight!

I'm so sad- I ordered it about two months ago, if not more!

Random fact:

My grandma's street was chosen to be Magnolia Crescent in HP 3 movie, and her house will be on the film, lol... they drove the Knight Bus up and down her road for a couple of hours then left!

ooh yes Michael Gambon will make a great Dumbledore.....

I have to admit to being a fairly new convert... I had seen the movies with the kids and thought I'm going to read the next book before the movie comes out.... so I started at book 1....... and have just finished book 4 in time for this new one....... woohoo!!!!

Tut tut FC how can anyone studying media etc not have heard of Sir Michael. I think he will be brilliant in the roll (oops back to Beverley) role of Dumbledore - bit heavier set than Richard Harris but still in the right area. He was in the Singing Detective but that will have been before your time.

Apparently the "announcement," which looked quite official at the time, is little more than a rumour. McKellan's people are denying that he will play Dumbledore, and I'm told his website reflects this position, though I haven't looked at it meself.

I persoanlly think he'd make a fine Dumbledore, but apparently we'll never know. Sorry for propagating rumour as news ...

That thought crossed my mind too as I was watching the new Lord of the Rings movie last week. But I dismissed it because I thought it would cause too much confusion in the minds of the little kiddywinks.

Celtic Soul asked:

> I am a little anxious to know who they will use to re-cast the part of Dumbledore as well.

Shortly after Christmas, I recall seeing an announcement to the effect that Ian McKellan had been given the part.

First three movies as Gandalf, then five more (presumably) as Dumbledore: how will the man ever avoid typecasting after this?

Anyone got the maths to work out how long the seventh book should be on the basis of those figures?

Makes the glib remarks people make sometimes about how children today can't concentrate on anything for more than a few minutes sound a bit silly.

Sian,
As soon as a book hits the New York Times Bestseller list it is often discounted by 50% in many large bookstores. That works out to 0.2799479166666666666666667 a page.

5. Order of the Phoenix...768 pages ...$43 (5.5¢ per page)

4. Goblet of Fire...634 pages ...$35 (5.5¢ per page)

3. Prisoner of Azkaban ...272 pages ...$19.95 (7.3¢ per page)

2. Chamber of Secrets ...251 pages ...$19.95 (7.9¢ per page)

1. The Philosopher's Stone ...223 pages ...$19.95 (8.9¢ per page)

We have always read these out loud together, so I may be hoarse for a while with the length of this one! Amazon has my advance order already. This latest book became their bestseller only 90 minutes following the announcement of it's publication date.

Interesting progression! I hope that the waiting time on each is not also a geometric progression. I believe that a large part of the problem was unravelling the built in problems in making the outline progress in a consistent manner.

It will be just in time for Gabriel's birthday. Four down and three to go. Will there be a series of Harry's ongoing problems of dealing with adult life when the initial series is over? Harry Potter and the Opel of Rekord--I shudder to think. Part of the charm is the fact of the series being about kids and their development.

768 pages according to one report. However the same report also says it's one third longer than the Goblet of Fire, which would make it around 850...

Wither way it's not that far short of the Lord of the Rings, and that's six books in three volumes (1,069, without the appendixes). And this is just the fifth of seven.

I've just checked, and the number of pages in all the Harry Potter books it comes to 223, 251, 317, 636, 768. Chart that curve and the length of number seven is going to be up in the stratosphere...

According to today's paper, JKR writes: "Dumbledore lowered his hands and surveyed Harry through his half-moon glasses.

"It's time," he said, "for me to tell you what I should have told you five years ago, Harry.

"Please sit down. I am going to tell you everything."

The report also says that time zones ahead of the UK cannot release HP and The Order of the Phoenix until 00:01 British Summer Time.

I actually bought the first copy in town last time. Strolled into town (seems to me the booksellers opened early?) and there was a queue at the main bookshop, but not at WH Smiths across the square. And then the nice wee man in Smiths let me in a couple of minutes early so ...

But I felt bad that a little boy had been at the head of the queue at the other shop, so I went over and told him that, if having the first copy sold in town was important to him, I'd swap his for mine. He thought this was seriously weird and retreated behind his father. Didn't take me up on the offer either.

Nice to know that literature can still generate enthusiasm!

Go on Art, you know you will enjoy it, even if just for the sake of the names which often escape notice on the first reading. Who would have expected Remus Lupin to have wolf-like tendancies? (be 'Lupine')
Why is the animagus who appears as a dog named Sirus (the dog star)?
And the one which seems to be overlooked the most:
How can you fit an extra shopping street into the already crowded London scene?

For Dumbledore, it seems they may use his body double as the physical actor and voice, and then digitally dub his face in afterwards. So much hair, it'll be difficult to tell the difference...

Celtic Soul, that's great news! I've been wondered who'd do Sirius - couldn't think of anyone who'd not already been signed up, but Gary Oldman should do that very well. Sean Bean was my best guess. Any news on who's going to be playing Remus Lupin?

Graham.

They're great books - I re-read mine over Christmas & have been waiting patiently for the next one.

Last January I gave my 7 year old niece a book voucher, which was used for a few small books & the rest kept for the new Harry Potter. It's a long wait for a 7 year old, as it is for a 50 year old. We will both be buying it in June. But I will not be in the queue waiting for the shop to open. I have a bit more patience.

Order of the Phoenix is indeed writ.

AND, I would also like to add that they have begun announcing the cast and approximate date for the next film "Prisoner of Azkaban". It will be out sometime in 2004 (not US Thanksgiving time, as have the last 2).

And one of my *fave* actors has made it on cast...Gary Oldman as Sirius Black. Awesome casting, as with everyone else thus far.

I am a little anxious to know who they will use to re-cast the part of Dumbledore as well.

All in all, 2003 will *not* be bad for lack of a film...this book is 1/3 *larger* than "Goblet of Fire"

Yes, I *am* a geek...what gave me away?

On the 'Filk' mailing list I saw the following announcement from Valerie

They have just announced that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix comes out on 21st June 2003. Apparently it's longer than the Goblet of Fire...
Obfilk: It's a book, Mrs Rowling, it's a book!
Valerie

To which I added the extension...

THE NEW BOOK
Nigel Parsons
(music Townshend/Entwhistle ?)

It's a book Mrs Rowling it's a book.
It's a book Mrs Rowling it's a book.
A Tome, A Tome, A Tome

Did you ever see the faces of your young fans looking so excited
They've been waiting two long years to see this great new work wot you have writed.
They believe in ghosts and wizards and in Draco Malfoy, who's a rotter
They dream of being like Hermione, or, if they are boys, like Harry Potter.

And Harry doesn't know what day it is.
Will Ginny teach him snogging, and what 'laying' is?
Will he soon grow up?
Or will he stay as Sirius' pup?
