Subject: If You Ever Fall In Love Again From: GUEST,Joan Date: 16 Jan 03 - 03:09 PM Hi everyone, This is the first time I have posted on this site. I only recently heard of Mudcat from a friend of a friend. Some years ago I heard a song on Irish radio entitled "If You Ever Fall In Love Again", it's a simple but beautiful love song. I never got the information on it at the time and when I enquired about it some time later, no one was able to tell me anything. I have searched music shops and everything I can think of on the web but cannot come up with anything on this song. I would dearly love to know if I can get a recording of it and would be interested in who wrote it or even if is an american song, English or was it written by an Irish person. The version sounded like it was perhaps from the 50s. I am hoping someone through mudcat can help me. Great site. All the best Joan |

Subject: RE: If You Ever Fall In Love Again From: Ebbie Date: 16 Jan 03 - 03:15 PM Is this it? Sarah Brightman - If I ever fall in love again If I ever fall in love again, It'll be with someone just like you. I don't say that I'm in love again But on the day you came my way, I knew. If I ever fall in love again, This is just the way it ought to be, But if it's really love again, I'll leave to fate, I'd rather wait and see. How can I know When my head is saying no And my heart's telling me that it's real? Can it be wrong If I burst into song At the wonder of feeling the way That I suddenly feel? If I ever fall in love again I shall know exactly what to do. And when I fall in love again I know it must be someone just like you. The way that I suddenly feel! If I ever fall in love again I shall know exactly what to do. And when I fall in love again I know it must be someone just like you. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Music: Peter Greenwell Lyrics: Peter Wildeblood Show: "The crooked mile" (1959) From: The songs that got away (1989) and Encore (2002). Subject: RE: If You Ever Fall In Love Again From: MMario Date: 16 Jan 03 - 03:32 PM There is also a song of that title by Dick Farrelly recorded by Anne Shelton in 1948. Can't find the lyrics tho' |
Subject: Lyr Add: IF YOU EVER FALL IN LOVE AGAIN (Farrelly) From: GUEST,Michael Date: 16 Jan 03 - 04:17 PM MMario is indeed correct. Dick Farrelly, an Irish songwriter, no doubt more famous for his songs "The Isle Of Innisfree" and "Cottage By The Lee" wrote this song in 1948. I got hold of an album several months ago, "Legacy of a Quiet Man" by Sinead Stone & Gerard Farrelly. The CD is a collection of songs by Dick Farrelly (Gerard's father) and includes this song. According to the sleeve notes it was first recorded by England's Anne Shelton and later by Guy Lombardo and his Orchestra and also by a vocal group called the Three Suns. IF YOU EVER FALL IN LOVE AGAIN words and music: Dick Farrelly © Andic Songs / MCPS If you ever fall in love again Try to fall in love with me Nothing new, just we two Same old moon above Same old words of love If you ever share your charms again Couldn't I be in your arms again? I love you still And I always will If you ever fall in love again. The link is for S.Stone & G.Farrelly for album or more info. http://www.stoneandfarrelly.com |
Subject: RE: If You Ever Fall In Love Again From: GUEST,Joan Date: 17 Jan 03 - 12:05 PM THAT'S THE SONG. Thanks a million Michael I'm delighted. Thank you to everyone for your help. As you can see, it's a simple and magical love song, at least I think so and a big bonus to be able to get a recording of it and one in which the composer's son is involved. Joan |
Subject: RE: If You Ever Fall In Love Again From: GUEST Date: 17 Jan 03 - 02:19 PM It's just a thought, but on the basis of what Michael has been able to offer, Dick Farrelly must surely be one of Ireland's best and most successful ever songwriters, yet I was not familiar with the name. I would be very interested in learning more about him. 'If You Ever Fall In Love Again' - would love to hear the melody of this song. |
Subject: RE: If You Ever Fall In Love Again From: Firecat Date: 17 Jan 03 - 03:43 PM Guest Mrs E again, I was looking for those lyrics!! They are the lyrics to "If You Ever" by East 17 ft. Gabrielle, which got (I think) to No. 1 in the UK singles chart. Thank you!! |
Subject: RE: If You Ever Fall In Love Again From: wilco Date: 17 Jan 03 - 05:21 PM Is this it? If I ever fall in love again, just go ahead and shoot me. My choice of mates has been so poor, just go ahead and boot me. If misery loves company, perhaps I'll find a spouse. Dear God, let this one be a regnerated louse. |
Subject: RE: If You Ever Fall In Love Again From: GUEST,Joan Date: 17 Jan 03 - 07:52 PM Don't know what you mean Wilco, the song I was talking about was Dick Farrelly's 'If You Ever Fall In Love Again', not 'If I Ever fall In Love Again'. Michael has given me all the information I could have hoped for. Joan |

Subject: RE: If You Ever Fall In Love Again From: GUEST,Greg Date: 17 Jan 03 - 11:19 PM Hi Joan, I too am delighted to have the information Michael has provided regarding the Irish songwriter Dick Farrelly composer of the 'Isle Of Innisree' (Theme of the film 'The Quiet Man') among others, and the song in question 'If You Ever Fall In Love Again'. I have wonderful memories of this song from many many years ago hearing Anne Shelton's recording, and haven't heard a thing about it for so many years. It's a very short song lyrically but is something special and I think it's great to know that there is a new recording of it by Dick Farrelly's son Gerard and singer Sinead Stone. I just might get a copy of their CD. Good on you Michael! Always something new from Mudcat! Greg. PS. I checked out their website and it seems that Dick Farrelly wrote not only 'The Isle Of Innisfree', but - 'Cottage By The Lee' 'The Rose Of Slievenamon' 'We Dreamed Our Dreams' 'Annaghdown' 'The Gypsy Maiden' 'If You Ever Fall In Love Again'and a lot of poetry besides. http://www.stoneandfarrelly.com |
Subject: RE: If You Ever Fall In Love Again From: Alice Date: 17 Jan 03 - 11:30 PM Dick Farrelly's son Gerard has also been on the Mudcat forum recently to set the record straight on The Isle of Innisfree and tell of his father's songwriting career. Re: "The Isle Of Innisfree" messages from composer's son.... great reading!! Alice |
Subject: RE: If You Ever Fall In Love Again From: GUEST Date: 18 Jan 03 - 09:56 AM Thank you Alice, for that info and link. I'm just a guest who is very interested in stuff like this that one finds from time to time at Mudcat, and you are always very giving and helpfull. |

Subject: RE: If You Ever Fall In Love Again From: GUEST Date: 19 Jan 03 - 12:44 PM The posting by Michael on this subject is wonderful and complete. He gave a mention to 'The Three Suns' and that they had also recorded 'If You Ever Fall In Love Again' by Dick Farrelly, which must have been back in the late forties of early fifties, has anyone ever heard their version? or can anyone tell me anything about them. Sam |
Subject: RE: If You Ever Fall In Love Again From: GUEST,Alan Short Date: 21 Jan 03 - 04:48 PM I think 'If You Ever Fall In Love Again' by the Irish songwriter is a little gem. Would love to hear the song itself. Just a thought, but it's amazing that this songwriter is the man who wrote the sublime 'Isle Of Innisfree', in my oponion the best emigration song ever written. For those interested, a couple of sites. http://www.stoneandfarrelly.com http://www.quietmancelebrations.com |

Subject: RE: If You Ever Fall In Love Again From: GUEST,Brent Date: 20 Feb 03 - 08:30 AM I had remembered reading some stuff on Mudcat some time ago about this song, anyway, I recently heard it on a late night programme on RTE radio. It is a most endearing song and a clever little love song. Glad to have heard it but unfortunately missed who the artist was. It's great to see that songs from a very long time ago are still around when you consider the awful crap that's around, thanks to 'Music Lovers' like Louie Walsh and Co. |
Subject: RE: If You Ever Fall In Love Again From: GUEST,Marcus Date: 14 Apr 03 - 01:33 PM My father seems to remember a version of this song in the States by a singer named Bill Laurence. We're talking the late forties. I would love to know if anyone has heard of this singer, and which orchestra or big band he sang with. Any help would be much appreciated. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: If You Ever Fall in Love Again (Farrelly) From: GUEST Date: 14 Apr 10 - 11:39 AM This Wikipedia article is worth a read - Interestingly the song was written by the the same songwriter who wrote the famous, Isle of Innisfree! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/If_You_Ever_Fall_in_Love_Again |
