Never heard about it. Are you sure you are not looking for uk.music.folk?

Otherwise, you at the mercy of your usenet provider - they don't all carry all groups. Google groups is a possibility in that case.

Jon

If it exists at all, you can't find it at Google groups. Beats me.

You maybe right Jon. I got that address from the electric blues club page, it could well be wrong. THank you.

I put "alt.folk.uk" into Google, and the first hit was:

Electric Blues Club - Folk
... the latest songs to play online!! Folk Links. alt.folk.uk UK newsgroup
that discusses all aspects of folk music and instruments. ...
members.lycos.co.uk/vocalist/ebc1/folk.html - 21k - Cached - Similar pages.

If you open

Yes, I tried that. The onsite link takes you to your own news server, which of course does not carry it...

Oooooops

That should have been:

If you open Electric Blues Club and scroll down a ways, there is a link to alt.folk.uk; but you have to set up a "newsgroup" account (in your email browser) to connect.

As usual, Malcolm, you're way ahead of me. I didn't check the link because I don't subscribe to newsgroups - on principle - so couldn't go that far.

If your ISP doesn't carry a newsgroup, you've pretty much had it unless it's archived somewhere (usually Google, formerly Dejanews - but not in this case) or you can find a public news server that has it. In this case, I rather suspect that the group in question doesn't exist any more, even assuming it once did; though I could well be wrong. The only times I've ever heard mention of it, though (apart from those few references found through Google) has been from people who couldn't find it!
