Subject: help me help Gori Women's Choir From: jlp Date: 20 Jan 03 - 03:24 PM Last year I visited the Georgian Republic and was able to hear the incredible Gori Woman's Choir. They told me about their CD made in 1995. Several of the women in the choir told me that only the director had received a copy of the finished CD. I want to buy two of them, one for me and one to send on to them. But Sony Music -- distributer in the Netherlands -- told me that this is no longer available. Do you know some way I might be able to locate this CD? Even if second hand, I know these hard working unpaid professinal singers would be tickled pink. And I could use it on a radio program here in The Netherlands. Here is the info I have about the CD: Gori Women's Choir, Shalva Mosidze, Conductor Archaica - Modern Georgian Choir Music Published by: St. Petersburg Classics, Distribution: Sony Classics CD SK 66924 more info about me in English and Dutch at my website |

My women's chorus has recently discovered the music of Georgia, but most of what we've heard was for men's chorus. |
Subject: RE: help me help Gori Women's Choir From: Callie Date: 21 Jan 03 - 06:12 PM There's a Melbourne based Georgian group called Golden Fleece. The group includes a women's trio. I'm trying to contact them to find out about that cd. But d'tou think I can find their e-mail address?! |
Subject: RE: help me help Gori Women's Choir From: Burke Date: 21 Jan 03 - 06:18 PM This won't help jlp. Animaterra try Northern Harmony Publishing for arrangements. |

Subject: RE: help me help Gori Women's Choir From: Charlie Baum Date: 22 Jan 03 - 12:04 AM Another Georgian women's chorus to search for is Mzetamze. For more about the Golden Fleece of Melbourne, Australia, visit their website at http://www.move.com.au/artist.cfm/330 . The listing at http://polyphony.ge/list%20of%20participants/folk.htm will give you these and other Georgian folk groups, from a conference on Georgian polyphony held in October 2002. jlp--if you're really can't find a copy, I suppose I could create a samizdat version of mine, but samizdat quality may leave something to be desired. --Charlie Baum |
Subject: RE: help me help Gori Women's Choir From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 22 Jan 03 - 06:18 AM Thanks, Burke, I've got the Northern Harmony books. But I'm checking out the other links above- what fun! |
Subject: RE: help me help Gori Women's Choir From: jlp Date: 24 Jan 03 - 01:28 PM Charlie Baum: do you really have this album? where did you find it? I would prefer to buy one than to copy one. I attended one of their rehearsals in Georgia in october 2001. They practise two to four hours three times a week. They have a very demanding and tempramental conductor. And sing mainly contemporary Georgian repertoir and some traditional. What a sound!!!! But no money for all their devotion. I thought the least I could do was to buy a CD for them. And I loved their sound, I want to buy one for myself, too!! But until now couldn't find one. As a last resort, I will take up your offer.... |
Subject: RE: help me help Gori Women's Choir From: Charlie Baum Date: 25 Jan 03 - 10:02 PM jlp-- I've got the album, and bought it when it first came out. I fell in love with Georgian music back in the early 1970s. I've been singing Georgian songs since learning "Shen Khar Venakhi" (the Kakheti-Kartli version) in 1973. In 1985, I was one of the co-founders of the Kartuli Ensemble, an American group that sings Georgian music and who members have since gone on to establish such groups as the Kavkasia Trio, Iveria, Darbazi, and Merani. I think I may have found a source for you--contact The Georgian Association [of the United States] and see if they still have it in stock. (Thay also have copies of the Kartuli Ensemble recording.) --Charlie Baum |

Subject: RE: help me help Gori Women's Choir From: GUEST,Curtis Ketterl Date: 25 May 10 - 09:54 AM This CD is now available on iTunes. I recently purchased it and am absolutely in awe of the sounds this choir can produce. I am a choir director and am curious if any of you would know how to get a hold of some of the sheet music from this CD. Specifically I am looking for music to the "Archaica II Lasharis Gzaze (On the Way to Lashari)" piece. Thanks for any help you can give! Curtis Kettler USA |
