I'll post this here has most readers of both forums also read Mudcat.

Both sites are slow and at times inaccessible. I have just recieved this from my ISP:

"A MS SQL worm is currently causing big problems to major backbone providers. This is causing packet loss and even stopping connections to some servers.

Please note that what you are experiencing is not a problem with the servers and once the trail of this worm has cleared your site should resume as normal."

I'll keep an eye on the situation but for now can only wait and hope things clear.

Jon

Thanks John

Seems that depending on the trail of the worm, even Mudcat could be affected...

I suspect this may be the thing doing the damage.

All dead here. We came back for about 15 minutes but that was about all.

I'd like to be able to give some better indication of what is happening but I don't have the information. All I know is that when the web sites were restored, there were problems with other parts of the system.

Looks like DNS is down at the moment.

They are up and down Nutty and there seems to be no predicting which part of the system will be affected when.

The state of play as I think about going to bed (may still be up an hour yet though) is that the servers the web sites are on are working well. The MySQL database server is down though. If it stays like that, The Annexe which uses a MSAcess database will be available but folkinfo will produce errors.

Last night (24 hours ago) I lost my Mudcat connection when I was trying to submit a reply to a thread, & couldn't get it back, so then I tried Mudcat help, the Annex & several sites. Couldn't get into any of 'em. So I cleaned up my mail & my folders - deleted 115 docs (if I remember correctly) & went to bed cos I was still unable to get anywhere. Nothing today from my ISP - I might have a look at their site to see if they were affected. Of course, maybe it was the old problem of Netscape playing silly buggers.

Tonight I got straight into Mudcat.

We are all OK now but at least according to the BBC, it seems like there may be another round of attacks.

Hopefully even if they happen, we will be clear this time.
