Subject: Lyr Add: Chilly Winds-II From: Charley Noble Date: 25 Jan 03 - 01:56 PM Sandy and Caroline Patton got this one from Paul Clayton who learned it from Jeannie Lee of Staunton, VA, a friend of the wonderful folksong/community theater family in that same time. Cisco Huston sings another song of the same title in the DT which only shares the chorus, and the "water tastes like wine" line may be borrowed from "Goin' Down the Road Fellin' Bad." CHILLY WINDS-2 (From the singing of Sandy & Caroline Payton circa 1966 Supposed to be Civil War era but updated by Jeannie Lee of Staunton, VA Further adapted by Charlie Ipcar) C-------------------F----------------C---------Am I'm going where them chilly winds don't blow, poor boy, ---------F---------------------------------G Yes, I'm going where them chilly winds don't blow, ----F---------------------------------G I'm going where them chilly winds don't blow – ------C---------------------------F------------G For the first snow is a-falling, and it's home I must go. I'm going where the waters taste like wine, poor boy, Yes, I'm going where the waters taste like wine, I'm going where the snow is hard to find, For this trouble in the northland lies heavy on my mind. I'm tired like I've never been before, poor boy, Yes, I'm tired like I've never been before, I'm tired and my heart is troubled sore, If I ever gets back to Georgia, I'll wander no more. Repeat first verse I'm going where them chilly winds don't blow, poor boy, Yes, I'm going where them chilly winds don't blow, I'm going where them chilly winds don't blow – For the first snow is a-falling, and it's home I must go. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
