There was a Minister of religion in Richmond Surrey in the 60s, called the Rverend A C Upstill. We also had a lad at one place I worked, appropriately named Wayne Kerr. This remimds me of the Billy Connolly joke about Mr & Mrs McCann, and their son Ghengis.

During the late 60's/early 70's when the term "ball", was the preferred slang for sexual intercourse among counter-culture types, I knew a young woman named Anita Ball. Only she and God know how many times she was introduced to some guy who thought he was being original by quipping something like, "You need a ball? Me too!".

Not really her parents' fault, I guess. How were they to know that their name would come to mean "screw"?

I went to college with Bruce E(lizabeth) Wright. She was put into a men's dorm when she was a freshman (corrected), drafted as a sophomore because she didn't register (corrected) and drafted again as a senior (she told them that her fiance wouldn't approve and she never heard from the draft board again).

As a professional telephone operator who has worked in a small hospital there were certain names that one questioned before making a page on the PA. Certain names make you think about Bart Simpson calling Moe's. These names require a slow cadence and must be ennucieated properly;

One of my english teachers was called Mrs Pratt, One of my current colleagues is called Stirling Moss ( and he's 50 odd years of age and rides a very large motorbike.......) and about two years ago our lab. had to do a parasite test on a Mr Leach.

i live in the epicenter of what was hippiedom, in the 60s. There was a local hippie, named Vito Paulekas, whose children all had "colorful" names.
The one in my daughter's class was named "Phreekus", he had 2 sisters named Groovy Nipples and Mary Apple (which is sort of cute).

Phreekus is a nice lad & changed his name to Mark as soon as he could.

When I worked at a magazine, I was asked to make some phone calls to some publicists, one of whom was named Honey Combs. I told the editor I just couldn't do it, because I'd laugh, and I didn't want to be rude.

Let us not forget Ima Hogg. She was a real person - I used to know a little more about her. I believe the Hogg family were some wealthy folks from Texas - maybe someone else is more enlightened.
