Subject: RE: Review: Wow, the Mudcat cd's rock!!!! From: Rustic Rebel Date: 28 Jan 03 - 04:37 PM I am listening right now! I just recieved them late last night and couldn't wait to hear them this morning. I've had them on all day and I absolutely love them!! Who is DWDitty? That's what I have on right now.I like him. The recording and sound and songs are wonderful. Amos-I really liked your Walla Walla Woman Blues! I could see myself singing that one. Morty-Your 'Sally Free and Easy'-Beautiful! I commend all musicians on these Cd's and thank you all! Love the way they open with JustaPicker (and Rick) and close with Harvey's song-The Song. I can hardly say enough to tell you how happy I am, that I am a proud owner of the set of Cd's! My only regret is I missed out on being there too! Peace, Rustic P.S. Happy Birthday Morty! |

Subject: RE: Review: Wow, the Mudcat cd's rock!!!! From: Hollowfox Date: 28 Jan 03 - 07:14 PM Boy, that's the God's Truth. I got the full set, and rationed myself so I wouldn't listen to them in a humungous marathon and overload. Although reviewers usually make disparaging comments about compilation albums that the sound quality varied from cut to cut, I found this to be a plus. The sound was of a uniformly high quality, but you could tell that the cuts came from different sessions. Our biggest local folk program has the unfortunate talent of making everything sound the same, no matter where it came from. This was like having friends over to the house for a visit. come to think of it, maybe that's why I went on a baking binge while I was listening. BTW, Happy B'Day, Morticia. *g* |

Subject: RE: Review: Wow, the Mudcat cd's rock!!!! From: diesel Date: 29 Jan 03 - 02:05 AM I know this sounds so idiotic of me - yes I can see the threads and gleam the names of all the CDs - plum, orchid etc. I can see the links of the song lists, But I can't see how to buy one ! (unless its by the product request form which seems a request to find a product not to but ???) I'll work it out soon - but help wanted !!Do I send Max a PM to order ? |
Subject: RE: Review: Wow, the Mudcat cd's rock!!!! From: Genie Date: 29 Jan 03 - 02:43 AM diesel, there's an 800# to call to talk to Dick directly and order the CDs with a credit card. I don't know if the 2nd batch is ready for shipping yet, but if it is, it only takes about 3 days (in the US) to get them after you order them. Folks, I've gotta tell you that I have a lot of CDs at home and I seldom listen to them, but I've heard each of the Mudcat CDs several times already. What's intriguing is, as has been commented on above, that there is such a variety of sounds and styles on each one!! Most artists' CDs have a uniformity/predictability from one song to the next, but you can't say that about these CDs. I had a few favorite songs at first, but as I listen to them I keep falling in love with new voices, new songs. BTW, I've shared Jed's song "Letter From Lilac Acres" with folks at two song circles and at a nursing/convalescent home and an assisted living residence. All four groups loved the song! (The old folks are generally not crazy about songs they've never heard before, but they burst into spontaneous applause at that song.) Anyway, if you haven't bought them, please do yourself (and Mudcat) a favor -- go for it. You'll be glad you did. Genie |

Subject: RE: Review: Wow, the Mudcat cd's rock!!!! From: rich-joy Date: 05 Feb 03 - 09:53 PM I have just ordered my set and can't wait to hear them - so much new material to experience - and to be able put voices to names will be fantastic!! I also now wonder when the next series will be!!!!!! (sorry) I don't know how I missed those threads a year ago - or maybe I just kind of assumed that they were for long-time 'catters or northern hemisphere participants or something!!! Do you have to have produced a CD already?? I'd like to participate, even from here in Down Under Land, if it ever happens again. Congrats and THANKS to all the contributors and movers-and-shakers so far, it's a wonderful way to be able to donate to The Cat. Cheers! R-J |
Subject: RE: Review: Wow, the Mudcat cd's rock!!!! From: Amos Date: 06 Feb 03 - 12:35 AM Rich: There have been several suggestions for a sixth disk and so I am keeping tabs on those who have said they want to put something on it, but it won't be for a while at least. I am still digging through other things I left on the back burner for eight months. If and when it happens I will be certain to let you know. And if someone else wants to take the lead on it, I am sure they'll post all about it as well. A |
Subject: RE: Review: Wow, the Mudcat cd's rock!!!! From: GMT Date: 06 Feb 03 - 06:48 AM I haven't heard them all yet but I'm REALLY impressed with what I have listened to. I echo what others have said, each new track is a gem and the different styles, voices and instrumentation makes for a real musical treat. Well done everyone and thanks Amos. Cheers Gary |
Subject: RE: Review: Wow, the Mudcat cd's rock!!!! From: Tweed Date: 06 Feb 03 - 07:28 PM Finally got my copy of Plum today! Thanks Dick Greenhaus, I was about to give up on ever hearing the songs whose titles I've read so many times. Post office must've opened this up and played it during the midnite sort or something, as they took their sweet time gettin' in my mailbox;~) This is a truly great collection of beautiful music. Listening to Star of the County Down and gettin' chills from it.....wait there's a kazoo and guitar on the next track... It's just a great freakin' widely varied bouquet of fine stuff. Thanks to Amos, and everyone who made this work....Dang there's Callie and Tant Que Vivrai...I gotta go....just beautiful stuff...it's just beautiful. Yerz, Tweed |

Subject: RE: Review: Wow, the Mudcat cd's rock!!!! From: Genie Date: 10 Feb 03 - 10:26 PM I displayed 4 of the 5 CDs at Rainy Camp, along with a blurb about Mudcat and the info on ordering. We provided a CD player so folks could hear any cuts they wanted to. Judging from the way my CDs looked after the camp and from some questions folks asked me, I think the CDs got some play and generated some interest. Mary Garvey and I also sang Harvey's "From The Heart" for one of the late night song circles, and folks seemed to like it a lot. I got a big group playing and singing Jed's "Letter From Lilac Acres" on Friday night, with handouts, and that was very popular. I also got the group singing my song "Harmony" in the Friday night song circle. I got a plug in for the CDs and Mudcat here and there, e.g., when Reggie Miles sang "I'm In Love With A Bearded Lady" in one of the workshops. I do wish I had bettter promo materials, e.g., a large color brochure or poster to put up above a display. I'll try to make a better one for Singtime Frolics, and maybe I'll be able to have a printed out set of liner notes by then. Genie |

Subject: RE: Review: Wow, the Mudcat cd's rock!!!! From: Genie Date: 30 Oct 10 - 02:02 PM Don't forget that the liner notes for all the Mudcat CDs are here in the forum - a separate thread for each CD. And within those threads you'll find printable songwriter credits, performer credits, and lyrics. The notes are complete for most of the songs. A few of the artists on the CDs haven't got back to me yet with that info, but the liner notes threads can still be amended or supplemented as new info comes in. |
