Subject: ADDGODPOP: Joy Comes in the Morning From: Joe Offer Date: 30 Jan 03 - 10:16 PM Hi, Mary - you'll find an online recording and lyrics here (click). The site says the background singer is the infamous Jimmy Swaggart. Can't say I like the song, but there it is. I have corrected the spelling of the lyrics posted on the site. I could't bring myself to post it the way it was. I found correct lyrics in Singspirations's Country & Western Gospel Hymnal, volume four. Looks like the Gaithers wrote it (click for their songbook). -Joe Offer- JOY COMES IN THE MORNING (William J and Gloria Gaither, 1974)
Hold on my child, joy comes in the morning, Weeping only lasts for the night Hold on my child, joy comes in the morning, The darkest hour means dawn is just in sight If you've knelt beside the rubble of an aching, broken heart, When the things you gave your life for fell apart, You're not the first to be acquainted with sorrow, grief, or pain, But the Master promised sunshine after rain. CHORUS To invest your seed of trust in God, in mountains you can't move, You have risked your life on things you cannot prove, But to give the things you can not keep for what you cannot lose, Is the way to find the joy God has for you, CHORUS Larry Hinson wrote a song with the same title, but it's not this one. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Joy Comes in the Morning (gospel song) From: GUEST Date: 14 Sep 11 - 11:42 PM Doug Oldham did the best version of it I have ever heard; he did rearrange a word or 2, but the same message....hard to find his stuff; I think the only CDs you can find are stuff that he put on CD himself, so the quality may not be as good as other stuff, but I don't know what happened to him; he was a very talented person who seems to have dropped off the radar; I hope not in disgrace. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Joy Comes in the Morning (gospel song) From: GUEST,Azizi Date: 08 Dec 12 - 05:54 PM Greetings! Here's a link to a post that I published on my cultural blog that features one sound file and four videos of African American renditions of "Weeping May Endure For The Night But Joy Comes In The Morning": http://pancocojams.blogspot.com/2012/12/weeping-may-endure-for-night-but-joy.html I went on YouTube looking for this song and was inspired to publish that post on my pancocojams blog because the song that is featured in this thread isn't the one that I'm familiar with. Here are the basic lyrics to the standard version of that Gospel song: Chorus: Weeping may endure for a night But joy is gonna come in the morning. {repeat several times} First verse: Amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now I am found was blind but now I see Chorus: Weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning Verse #2 I came to Jesus just as I was Weary worn and sad I found in Him a resting place Ad He has made me glad. Weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning [repeat several times and elaborate] -snip- The line "weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning" are from the Old Testament (Psalm 30:5). The verse which begins "Amazing Grace" is from the religious song with that title. The verse which begins with "I came to Jesus" is from the religious song "I Heard The Voice Of Jesus Say". I believe that Rev. James Cleveland was the first person who combined that Bible verse with those verses from those religious songs. That post includes a 1968 sound file of Rev. Cleveland & a choir, and also includes a rendition by a male choir that sings that song like a Dr. Watts hymn. -Azizi Powell |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Joy Comes in the Morning (gospel song) From: GUEST,vincea5.hotmail.co.uk Date: 25 Mar 14 - 06:46 AM Hi, you were wondering what happened to Doug Oldham, he died on the 21st July 2010, Doug Oldham brought back the copyright to his own albums that he made, they have been re-mastered and transferred to cds, his daughter sells them now, her website is easy to find. And they are top quality recordings, I know because I have all 29 cds.I highly recommend them to you and everyone else. Although I have to confess, I have a lot more than just Doug Oldham. I would like to have meet him. And I will in heaven. Amen. Wonderful. |
