There's an Irish-sounding song running through my head for which I can't remember or find the words. All I recall is that the last verse went something like: And I wish the Queen would call back her armies/ From (various European countries ending with Spain)/ (something about couples being restored)/ da dum da da dum da da dum da da dum da dum again.

It was a slow song (I heard it in pub sessions) in 4 beat time and with a lovely Dorian modal tune: The easiest way to represent the tune is to take the white notes of the keyboard and let D = 1 (tonic) E=2 etc. Notes below 'home' D, I'll label A C etc. Treating all beats are even, it's. . .

Anyway, anybody with the patience to decipher that will have learned a really nice melody or else recognised the song in which case maybe you could point me towards the words.
Ta in advance.

Can't decipher the tune at this time of morning, Leslie, but the words are from a song beginning 'As I roved out on a bright may morning' (yes one of the many) recorded by Planxty and many others.

Incidentally, *ping* I've just remembered, this is the very song which brought me to the Mudcat Café lo these many moons- when my brother-in-law sent me the lyrics from the DT.

Therefore-
As I Roved Out in the DT!

That song is doubtlessly "As I Roved Out" (one of several with that name). Lyrics are here.

You can find a nice recording of it on my band Greenhouse's CD I Lie Awake".

Cheers,
Michael
