Subject: B.S. Kindness of strangers From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 03 Feb 03 - 10:36 AM We've become used to the generosity of fellow mudcatters (although to read some posts you'd think it was a Nigerian e-mail scam site!)and I've been the recipient of much sage advice and recordings etc. However, it is nice to know that the outside world is sometimes as "nice". I have had some frustrations with bands not answering e-mails (why offer the facility on their website then?), seemingly not interested in selling their CDs or responding to gig inquiries. A pleasant recent exception prompted these ramblings: I asked Brian Green, veteran South London "trad" band leader (his band were resident at the Millennium Dome if you went there) whether his two "skiffle" albums were still available. I got a friendy e-mail back to say they weren't but he had some unreleased tracks he'd been thinking of cutting to CD. Hey Presto a CD arrived, (one of a limited edition of 12 - but complete with proper (signed) insert) AND he said he wouldn't cash my cheque till he was sure I liked it. What a gent! Subject: RE: Kindness of strangers From: greg stephens Date: 03 Feb 03 - 10:54 AM not that this has anything to do with the kindness of strangers, but it has to do with skiffle. I was in a pub the other night, and I was singing the Midnight Special, and just when I was on the "If you ever go to Houston, you'd better walk right" verse, the police raided us.(It might have been a trifle after time). |

Subject: RE: Kindness of strangers From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 13 Feb 03 - 09:52 AM Another example has just happened . I ordered a CD from blues singer/guitarist Papa George (George Papanicola) but stupidly muddled the box number so it came back to me from the Post Office and I sent it again (to the right number) without altering the date. George actually phoned me up, worried it had been delayed in the post, to apologise for the delay in replying. So not only all the good guys are on the Mudcat (though most of those on the Mudcat are good- but my old Philosophy lecturers would tell me that's a false syllogism or something). Oh, and at the Skiffle Madness, King Street Smith offered to get someone to lend me a washboard if I wanted to join in. I declined. After the "Eggs in Sessions" thread,I know my place (as Ronnie Corbett memorably said) which is as a member of the audience. RtS |
