Subject: RE: know this country song?-drunk driver kills wife From: PHJim Date: 04 Sep 19 - 01:37 AM "Flowers" by Billy Yates makes me wonder how, just a year after killing his lady, a drunk driver could have a job at a factory. I would think that he'd still be in jail. |
Subject: RE: know this country song?-drunk driver kills wife From: Severn Date: 01 Sep 19 - 04:36 PM Try one called The Drunken Driver. The Stanley Brothers and many others recorded it. I won't give it away, but this one has all the plot twists you'll ever need, except for a dog and a train. |

Subject: RE: know this country song?-drunk driver kills wife From: GUEST Date: 27 Apr 14 - 08:02 PM Hey just wanted to say I've been looking for that song, myself for a long time. Thank you! I'm not Tommie but when you look for a song as long has I have you usually keep it up till you find it. |
Subject: RE: know this country song?-drunk driver kills wife From: GUEST,tritoneman Date: 04 Oct 13 - 08:14 PM I don't remember this particular song but it puts in mind of a song called 'I Heard The Wreck On The Highway But I didn't Hear Nobody Pray'. I think it was written by Roy Acuff although I first heard it sung by the great flat-picking guitar man Malcolm Price in the UK folk clubs during the late 1960s. Graham |

Subject: RE: know this country song?-drunk driver kills wife From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 02 Feb 12 - 05:18 PM That certainly fits the bill, Guest. It was also a hit in 97, so it's the right time-frame too. Whether Tammie is still checking in after 8 years to tell us if it really is the song she wanted is another matter. Still, it looks to me as if the request can be crossed off! Mick |
Subject: ADD: Flowere (recorded by Billy Yates) From: GUEST,Guest Date: 02 Feb 12 - 04:42 PM I don't know if this is the song you're looking for, but it fits the theme: "Flowers" - Billy Yates (also recorded by Chris Young) FLOWERS (recorded by Billy Yates & Chris Young) I should've took you dancin A little candle light romancin', with roses But I was high upon a bar stool I was such a blind fool, now I know it You won't believe how much I've changed since you left It took losin' you, for me to find myself Oh, I wish that you could see me Steady hands without the whiskey, you'd be so proud Got that job down at the factory A brand new suit for Sunday, I'm in church now It's been one year since I sat behind a bar I went by the junk-yard, they've still got our car I still see you on your knees Beggin' me not to drive But I took away the keys And made you climb inside An' I'd take your place in this field of stone If I only had the power Look what it took For me to finally bring you flowers Oh, I'd take your place in this field of stone If I only had the power Look what it took For me to finally bring you flowers Just look what it took For me to finally bring you flowers |
Subject: RE: know this country song?-drunk driver kills wife From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 02 Feb 12 - 09:15 AM marc - I don't think that's the song. See Last Kiss, where the lyrics are posted. That song was written by Wayne Cochran and was a hit for him in 62; the Pearl Jam version is a cover. There's nothing to do with drinking and driving or refusing to let his wife drive in the lyrics, which is why I don't think it's the answer. Mick |

Subject: Do you know this country song? From: GUEST,guest Date: 03 Feb 03 - 09:48 PM Could anyone identify a song title for me? It was a country song, circa 1996-1998. The storyline was about a man telling about how he was drinking too much, refused to let his wife drive, had a wreck and killed her. Boy that is a country song, isn't it? And no, I don't remember if it was a pickup truck. Thank you for your help. Tammie |
