Subject: BS: Suggestion: OPP prefix for job threads From: Marion Date: 04 Feb 03 - 12:18 PM Hi all. I was thinking that it might be helpful to have another prefix - possibly OPP for opportunity - for threads that announce specific music opportunities, like jobs, auditions, song-writing contests, festival showcases, and requests for volunteers. What do you think? Marion |

Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion: OPP prefix for job threads From: Joe Offer Date: 04 Feb 03 - 03:51 PM Well, I can't see a need for a tag unless there's a lot of traffic in that area - and I haven't seen that yet. If you want to try a new tag and see if it works, go ahead - just put the thing under "general music" (which does not put a tag in the thread title), and put your own tag in. However, let it be known that Joe Offer does not bestow favor upon tags that are not immediately understandable to the eye of Joe Offer. I saw OPP, and didn't immediately understand what it meant. Joe prefers clear English, not abbreviations. Now, the fact that Joe Offer doesn't favor it has somewhat limited significance, because it might well be that Max or Jeff would like it, or that the overwhelming majority of Mudcatters would love it and that it would be instituted by general acclaim. Still, it doesn't strike Joe Offer as necessary...yet. Joe Offer is open to the possiblility of changing his mind, but Joe isn't overly inclined to favor having a huge number of categories. He would actually like to see the number of thread categories reduced, and to have the number of links page categories greatly reduced (he hasn't won that battle yet, but he lobbies Max and Jeff on that subject occasionally). -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion: OPP prefix for job threads From: JenEllen Date: 05 Feb 03 - 11:32 AM I understand, Joe, (well, somewhat--that 3rd party Bob Dole thing ya got going there is a little creepy) but I still support Marion's idea just for the simple fact that I'd much rather see opportunity. Personal preferrence, I know, but perhaps if folks were out looking for opportunities and musical venues there would be a little less bullshit and conjecture? If it meant even a fractional reduction in the rampant political reiterations, I'd walk barefoot on coals for an OPP. ~JE |
